Adding another day is always better, right?

Last fall when we went we arrived Sat and left the next Sat. We needed that Sunday at home to recover before the chaos of the work week started.

Next trip our kids will be older, so I am tossing around the idea of doing Sat to the next Sunday. This will let us do MKx3, Epcotx1, HSx1, and AKx2. If we don't add the extra day, we probably won't got to HS at all.

We would have 7 full days, plus an afternoon/evening in Epcot on arrival day and morning in Epcot on departure day. That isn't too much, is it? Is there such thing as too much?

DH didn't see the point of adding the extra day at first, but the more I think about it the more it seems like a good idea. Right?

I say yes, especially if you are flying. Airfare keeps going up so the longer the stay the more value you get for it.

We are doing the same thing this next trip. We are usually Saturday departers but decided we wanted as much disney time as possible. I may regret that when I have to be back at work on Monday am but in the long run think we will like a day in the parks more than a day of laundry ; ).

I wouldn't add an extra day. You will need that day at home to rest and get things back in order before starting a new work/school week.

February 2013 we went for 5 nights/4 days (arrive Wed night, leave Monday morning) and it was really a good trip. Our kids were 2 and 4 and we did a few character meals and it was a good trip.

In July 2013 we went for 7 days and 8 nights (arrived Saturday afternoon, left Sunday morning so 7 full days and 8 nights). It was too much. Frankly, I just couldn't take it anymore after about day 5. The last two or three days weren't fun. Our kids were still 2 and 4, and they acted the same, but this trip they just drove us nuts.

This could be a few factors but I think the main reason it was bad is simple: it was July so it was hot and packed.

We went back in January 2014 again for 4 days and it was again a great trip.

For us 4 days seems to be enough. One we get past day 5 the "magic" kinda wears off and we start noticing all the annoying things about a Disney trip (busses, crowds, heat, whining kids, etc).

Meant to add...I would just make sure that the house is somewhat in order before you go, and you have done enough laundry and laid out outfits for everyone for the first couple days you are back. Stock up the house with the non-perishable groceries that you use and then make a list before you go so make a quick stop at the grocery store on your way home for whatever perishables you need (milk, bread, lunches). Or maybe you have a relative nearby who would be willing to do a quick grocery run for you and have the house stocked a bit for you upon your return. Plan a few meals for the first days back, whether pizza or frozen.

I like having that day as a buffer, but I think with some pre-planning it could be done without too much chaos!

Are you getting park hoppers? If not, I would put the money for the extra hotel night towards that. You have AK x2. If you are going in September, it will close early. You can use that evening to hop to another park. I always like a day at home to regroup before I go back to work.

We always stay as long as we possibly can, usually flying back Sunday evening and getting home at midnight, lol! It does make those first few days afterwards a little rough, especially when everyone has to be at work and school early Monday morning, but we still think it's totally worth it.

Like PP said, try to set yourself up for success as much as possible though. Have the house in decent shape, a few days worth of clean clothes on hand, etc.

I would be way to depressed to just be sitting around the house all day Sunday, thinking, "We could still be at Disney!!" :rotfl2:

Normally I would say no but I think I will say go for it. This next trip I had originally planned on having just 5 park days doing EPCOT twice. Because we are taking DDs friend I next had the notion to break our normal routine and do MK the afternoon we arrive. We will leave early than normal and also MK has evening EMH that night. Next I mulled around the idea of adding another day so we would have six full park days. I really want to do MK two full days.

Works for me, we always find a way to add more days:thumbsup2

Thank you all!

I am torn as to what to do. As long as our flight back is on time, getting home on Sunday would be fine. I would have things set so that we would be ready for the week.

An extra day might be a lot of fun.

Also.. we would be doing park hoppers no matter what.

Unless your kids are going to be quite a bit older, I'd say no. Normally, I do think adding an extra day whenever possible is a good thing. But with kids a year older than what is listed in our siggy, nope. I wouldn't suggest it in most cases. There are exceptions though - think of what your kids can handle.

I say do it. We did 9 days stay, 7 park days plus travel and it was a split stay. We got home late Sunday. Not a big deal for us. My kids were 4 and 6. They recover pretty fast. Our next trip we added US, IOA, MMSSHP and 5 WDW days plus drive from nj. They have all winter to rest lol

We have found by day 7 we are worn out and kinda ready to come home. So 6 days is about perfect for us. That said, we have never taken a trip less than 8 days and usually go for 10!:rotfl2: So, yes, add that extra day! ;)

The only thing better than adding a day is, adding two days.
:thumbsup2

I honestly don't think I can ever go even less than a week. I'm always trying to add a day here n there. Usually we try and get a 6:00 am flight from jersey, then a late flight when we leave , just to maximize our time there.

When we bought into DVC , our 1st trip was at bwv, and I figured 11 nights would be sufficient. Man talk about awesome, so in other words I'd say go for it.:cheer2:

add a day...I don't know why but I always like having more than the 7 nights. Take an extra day from school / work if you can.

I agree you need time to recover.

What time would your flight land? If it landed in the morning, maybe staying and extra day would be okay because you have the afternoon and evening to decompress. Otherwise, if you land in the evening, I would want a full day before going back to work.

I wish we would have added an extra day. It was an oversight on my part.

We fly out at 6pm on a Saturday and land near midnight local time Sunday. I was thinking this would give us a day to relax and regroup.

Well that Monday is Labor Day and is a holiday fro both myself and wife.

In retrospect I think I would have rather paid an extra nights stay and taken off at dawn out of Orlando. Number of flights that left in the 9-10am range and landed in the 5-6pm range.
