I'm not sure where to ask this. I think I know the answer but want confirmation. We decided to add 2 extra nights to the beginning of our WDW stay but the problem is WL doesn't have availability those first two nights. If I book a different resort will I need to pay the one night's deposit upon booking? I'm pretty sure I do. I'm guessing if I could have modified my original room reservation to accommodate the 2 early days I wouldn't have to but since it'll be a different resort I will need to?

Correct you would need to pay a 1 night deposit on a room only reservation or $200 on a package.

Modifying would have meant it was the same reservation so you would have just needed to pay the balance.

Booking a new reservation is booking a new reservation. The system doesn't know you are adding on to your already booked vacation. You would have to pay a separate deposit.

Yes. They are treated by Disney as two separate reservations.

I just did this a couple of days ago! Added one day to our WL trip in August. Again, no availability at WL to add the night to the beginning so we are staying in a cabin at fort wilderness the first night. Two separate reservations. Also, even though I just booked the one night room the CM on the phone told me I just had to pay the $200 deposit....not the $306 one night fee you pay for a room only reservation. I was surprised. Then I realized even though I was only booking the one night room she was putting it in as a package with package cancellation. I reminded her it was a room only so she asked if I wanted to pay the first night now, I told her yes since I would have the full refund 6+ days out if anything were to happen.
Also, fun side.....since this was a separate reservation for this one night I just got an email I can book fast passes now....:lmao:. I booked mine weeks ago under our other full reservation! So the system doesn’t even know I’m already going I guess!

Correct. It’s reservation-specific. You’ll also be able to customize magicbands for both reservations if you wish. (They can be used interchangeably)

We just did this yesterday! Kids picked two colors to interchange, found a website that showed all the different color combos when switching out pucks! A little insurance too since my son lost one magic band on the last trip on the second to the last day, everyone will start out with two bands just in case!
