Adding a guest to an ADR

We have a 5:50 pm adr for Boma on our arrival night. We have a friend who is local who we would like to invite for drinks and dinner with us that night. Will we be able to add 1 to our adr when we check in, or should I try to call ahead of time?

I'm not sure if he will be free for dinner, but I don't want to invite him if I'm not sure we can have him join us either. Also, will he be able to park at AKL for free? If not can I arrange to pay for his parking ahead of time?

You should try and adjust ahead of time. But if you can't, it's entirely likely they can adjust your party at the podium. If you go up in table size at the podium you might have to wait longer or you might not. There is a VERY rare possibility that the restaurant will be full to capacity for fire codes and they won't let anyone extra in. I'll say again it's VERY RARE but on occasion it does happen.

There's no payment to park at WDW resorts and he should tell the guard that he is entering for dinner. He may have to show an ID.

I would try to add beforehand. I called yesterday to add 1 person to several reservations and didn't have any problems at all. It might save some problems when you arrive for dinner.

We have had to call to add a person before. Glad we called ahead because we went up a table size.

The one time we didn't was at 1900 Park Fare. A friend of DD's had spent the day with her and we had to add her on ressie when we arrived at podium. Although we didn't go up a table size, it still took some additional time to get us a table.

Out of respect to other guests, I will always call ahead of time, if possible and try to be understanding if the restaurant can't accommodate us if we wait until the last minute.
