I was wondering how many people pay the extra money for insurance when flying? It seems like the prices just keep getting higher and higher.

:confused3

No matter how expensive the ticket, most airlines allow you to cancel and get a credit in the amount of the ticket price minus a per ticket change fee of up to ~$150 per ticket. You have up to one year from the date of original purchase to either travel or book a new ticket - depending on the policy of the airline.

I buy trip insurance only for cruises, and most cruises involve a flight to the departure port. I buy a policy that will cover my entire trip and not just the flights. I have used both www.insuremytrip.com and www.tripinsurancestore.com to purchase trip insurance.

I have never insured a domestic trip. I only insure high cost trips that I know I will lose a large amount of money if I miss the trip due to a personal reason (such as injury / sickness).

The only two trips I have insured was a safari in Botswana and a trip to Antarctica.

I've found Disney to be VERY accommodating when you need to make changes to a hotel or vacation package.

We usually fly SW and they don't charge any change/cancellation fees. Even if you 'no show' for a flight, your funds paid are still available for future travel up until 1 yr from original purchase date.

I only buy ins for cruises.
