If you add on at the same resort, but with a different use month, can MS change it to be the same as your initial contract?
Thanks,
Jennifer

If you are buying a resale that has a different use year than a contract you already have, DVC does not change the use year for the new contract. You then own 2 contracts with different numbers and different use years. We added on with a resale that had the same use year that we already had and it was incorporated into the initial contract, just different decimal numbers, just like an add on from Disney.

two contracts, two use years. It doesn't even make a difference if they were the same use year, if they are bought resale, they still are different contracts, and treated as such. Nevertheless, you can combine points to make ressies. You can even combine points from two contracts if you wanted to transfer them, although I would NEVER do so, to make a ressie. Usually, it's best to make a ressie of 3 days from one contract, and 4 days from the other contract, and link them together with a memo that you want to be left in the same room throughout.

No. You'll have to track the add on contract separately from the original contract. Among other things, that means you will have to be aware of the different banking deadlines and you will need to tell MS which contract's points to use for each reservation.

Disney will not sell you an add on of less than 150 points unless it is for the same use year as your original contract. You could buy a new minimum contract (150 points) with a different use year, though.

As already mentioned, you would have to buy resale to get a different use year from your original if you want less than 150 more points.

HTH.

Thanks for the info... I am kind of frustrated because we are in CA and therefore it is practically impossible to buy an add on from Disney directly (which would keep my use years the same). And I haven't seen any small June contracts for VWL in a while on the resale market. Guess we'll just keep waiting and watching.
Thanks again

You should consider calling the resellers and telling them what you want in advance. Most of the good contracts (and that includes the small ones) never make it to the "for sale" list.

Disney has atleast 100 points for an add on for June use year. (I had my guide put in for the contract last week to see if it would slide by with a different use year... nope ,,,didn't work) Almost every month has VWL points but what I need.... Feb. !

Hate to piggyback but Carol... You mentioned that if you buy an add-on for a month other that your own UY you must buy 150 point minimum? Am I understanding that correctly? So if a person wanted to add onto an OKW contract with a SSR add on they can do 50 point minimum add on but it must be the same UY? Is that correct?

twotoohappy,
I am curious about who your guide is because I have been steadily calling every week for about two months and have been told there is nothing available at VWL. Now it could just be that it is the CA problem (they are only licensed to sell a limited amount of their total inventory in this state) but it would be nice to confirm that they do have the inventory available that I am looking for, if I were able to travel to WDW to purchase.

My guide is Byron! He checks everyday and I usually call him once a month to check on add ons. He actually called me last week because Feb. points for anything has been rare and a 100+ points for BWV came up and he wanted to know if I was interested. (I'm looking for BCV and VWL to add on) as I was on the phone, he read me what he had for BCV - dec points VWL - April, June, August (I'm not sure of the rest). I picked June because that's my birthday and asked him to put in for 100 points there. Disney rejected it and said that if I wanted to buy 150 points that I could do that as a new contract, but otherwise would have to wait for my use year.
As for guides, my previous guide wouldn't look for me and said that there are never any add ons available especially for BCV/VWL. I switched guides the next day to Byron and it may be a coincidence but when I called and switched to him, he just happened to find 45 BCV points Feb use year!
The only problem I could see with you going to WDW is that usually the points go very quick. Byron checks every morning and has two contracts for me waiting, all filled out and ready to be sent in, so the points don't get taken. Maybe you could have a contract filled out and signed in FLA and then it wouldn't effect your CA status? I'm not sure, but if you're not happy with your guide I'd switch. Byron's #8005018668:wave2:

Our Guide is Byron as well. He is quite the gentleman and very good about following up.

If the two contracts are different use years, it's like you are two different people. If you buy a reasle with the same use year, DVC tries to and usually does, add it to your exisiting contract and it'll funciton as one contract.

You cannot buy a different use year from DVD directly unless it is 150 pts or more, resale is a different story but I'd recommend against buying a small contract in a use year by itself in most cases, especially for one who owns other points.

Michael - That is my understanding. If you want to do something different than that, it never hurts to ask, though.

Best wishes -

That is correct if you purchase direct from Disney. If you purchase resale, it can be for any point value and for any use year.

Thanks so much for all your help...
I think I will contact Byron, he sounds a little more proactive than my current guide. How does one go about switching guides? Do you just contact the new person or is there someone else I need to contact and ask them to switch me to the new person...
Thanks again,
Jennifer
