We've just put in a bid for 100 points at SSR for our first contract; assuming that goes through - will we then be able to buy smaller contracts directly from Disney for either AKV/BLT or even Hawaii in a couple of years, or do you need have a "full" 160 points first to be able to buy the smaller sized contracts?

From what I have read....NO you are IN baby!!! I think a lot of people do that and then they can add on smaller contracts for 25, 50 and so forth. I know that with Disney you can't finance until you buy at least 50 if you need that option. Good luck!!!

I believe that once you own, no matter how many points, you can buy in through Disney at any resort that is currently selling. I also believe that the minimum add-on through Disney is 25 points, 50 if you want to finance through them. It's when you buy direct from Disney that you have to purchase your first set of points at 160.

Thanks for the information; doesn't take long to get answers around here does it?

Just be aware that to book a resort in the "home resort booking window" (11 months to 7 months plus one day from check in) you must use points from that resort. So if you add on a 25-point contract at BLT and you want to book a stay at BLT 11 months out, you will have only those 25 BLT points available to you. You can bank and/or borrow points from your BLT contract giving you up to 50 BLT points to use every other year or up to 75 BLT points to use every third year. But what you won't be able to do is apply any of your SSR points to a BLT reservation until you are within 7 months from check in, subject to availability.

So if you do decide to add on at a different resort so that you can book there 11 months out, make sure you purchase an add on that is large enough to cover your reservation (or half of your reservation if you plan to stay there every other year or a third of your reservation if you plan to stay there every 3 years) plus a bit of a fudge factor in case DVC changes the point requirements again as they did for 2010.
