We currently own 180 points at SSR. Can we purchase a small contract at another resort (like AKV or other future resort) or do we have to do the minimum (160 right now I think)?

Yes, since you are already a DVC member, you can add on an smaller contract (25 point minimum, I think) at one of the other resorts. I believe that the only restriction is that it has to be the same use year.

the minimum is 25 pts if you pay cash and 50 pts if you use disney's financing, IIRC.

Just like others said, yes indeed you can add on and once you do it, it's hard to stop. Each time you add on your contract number on the new add on is identified by a .1 at the end of your number and you have to have the name UY and everyone on the first contract, must be on the add on contract so all must sign for your addon. (not really a problem).
