Add on question when adding at a different resort than you currently own.

I am considering adding on to my current DVC contract. I currently own at SSR. I am thinking of adding on somewhere like BWV. My question is, I currently own 330 pts at SSR and if I purchase say 100 pts at BWV for a total of 430 pts, does that allow me the 11 month booking window for both SSR and BWV for my whole 430 pts?

For instance, let's say I wanted to book a trip to BWV that would cost me 400 pts, can I book that at the 11 month booking window even though only 100 pts would come from the BWV contract and the remaining would come from my SSR contract? Or would I have to wait until the 7 month booking window to utilize all my points?

I hope this wasn't too confusing, b/c I am certainly confused.

When you add on, you are adding to your membership, not the contract. Contracts always stand alone. So, if you add on BWV points, you will have two contracts, one for each.

But, points themselves determine where they can be booked and not who owns them. So, your BWV points are only good at BWV during the 7 to 11 month window and your SSR points are only good at SSR during that window.

At 7 months they can be combined to use together. This also assumes it is the same UY and the owners are the same. If you bought a different UY or there are different names on the contract, then you get a brand new membership.

That means using together at 7 months requires you to transfer, which has its own set of rules.

Sandisw explained the details better than I could! Would suggest that you seriously consider buying something with the same UY as your current contract. It's not required, but will make your planning much less complicated in the future.

Sometimes I wish it worked like that. However, if that were the case, everyone would buy like 1000 SSR points and then buy 25/50 points (whatever the minimum is) at each of the other more expensive resorts to obtain home booking priority and it wouldn't make sense at all. Points always retain their original properties AKA their home booking priority at a certain resort, the same UY and in turn the same expiration date. Even when you transfer points to another person, they still retain their same home booking priority and expiration date/use year.

tl;dr: you can't use them together until 7 months
