Hi

I'm a post April 2016 buyer, so I called DVD today to buy the minimum add-on so I would have the perks going forward.

I was told that since I was an overseas buyer from Europe I would need to show up in person to add-on they weren't allowed to sell to me over the phone, it didn't matter that I was a member already.

I was under the impression that only new members from Europe (maybe no the UK) would need to show up to buy direct. Was I given wrong info or is this actually the case?

I'm actually going to poly in sept so the problem might not be that big except if I request a sold out resort and need to wait for the points to become available.

TIA

You can contact them again to verify but I would think that they know the laws and policies.

I can but I hoped that I could buy from home.

What is the difference between buying direct vs from a broker which can sell to international customers?

When purchasing direct, you are purchasing from the Developer. Typically, the developer needs to register the timeshare in each jurisdiction if they plan to sell or market its product directly to residents of those jurisdictions. I believe that there are a couple of US States that DVD is not registered in because of state timeshare laws.

Resales (with or without the use of a broker) don't have those restrictions since you are not purchasing directly from the timeshare developer.

Any recommendations on how I should go about buying the add on would be very much appreciated.

We are staying for 1 week in September.

I'm aiming for the minimum 25 points. I already own at BLT and SSR.

TIA

It will depend on what existing resorts they have in inventory for your UY and what you want to do with the points, add them to an existing master contract or buy a new master. You can also by the current resorts, PVB or CCV.

I have April as UY and 25 points won't get me far at PVB or CCV. Maybe if I banked and borrowed. BWV has the cheaper studioes but I guess that would be a stretch to always count on getting them.

Preferably I would like to use the points at 11 months.

Do you need more points at BLT?
Would you rather buy BWV and buy 50 direct?
Buy a new resort direct and later buy additional at the resort resale?

We enjoy owning at MK and Epcot resorts. You can due a split stay each trip or one year stay MK resort, next year Epcot resort. Doing every other year allows you to bank and have double the points each stay.

Actually haven't thought about a new resort being a new master which meant a minimum purchase of 50 points.

I don't need more BLT points and that's why my thinking was that it was better to get SSR because the points are cheaper.

I would be great to own an Epcot resort but only if I could start with 25 points but that's seems not to be the case.

I don't think a new resort has to be a new master as long as the UY matches what you already own at BLT or SSR. However getting the UY to match for a 25 point contract if you have to complete the purchase while only there for a week could be a problem. If DVD doesn't happen to have those points avail immediately you have to wait for them to acquire them and go on the waitlist which can sometimes takes weeks or longer. As for BWV if you only buy 25 points intending to use them to go 5 night every other year for F&W in a standard studio you will discover it can be rather difficult to secure one. Many have similar thoughts and the standard view rooms only make up like 20% of all the rooms there.

If it won't be a new master if the UY stays the same, then I could pick what ever resort they are selling now, but I would not be my first choice as I would like an Epcot resort, but that's like not gonna happen as they would need to have the inventory in stock when I arrive.

Resort doesn't matter, as long as the UY is the same and it's titled in the same names it will be added to your existing membership.

Aarh perfect. I guess I need to talk to them after we checkin and see what they have available.

Do I just approach one of the kiosks or should I just call the same phone number I did from home?

I should have been clearer, as posted below, same UY and same names on deed and your new contract is a sub to your existing master contract.

I have talked to my guide and currently it does not look good getting any of my 1st choices of addons. I’m aiming for 30-40 points direct. My guide suggested to do a 2nd master. Guessing that is enough for a new master.

Could anyone explain what would the pros and cons be?

I know that I would get a new banking deadline. Also I wouldn’t be able to combine points from 2 uy’s In a single booking.

IMO not worth it. Your guide doesn't have your UY so he suggested a 2nd master, his inventory can change tomorrow. Transferring between accounts is a pain, Our original contract is in one UY we soon discovered that it was the wrong UY for us. All of our other contracts, (we had 26 but sold some) are in our correct UY. DVC doesn't handle transferred points well, MS made mistakes in our case and we decided to never transfer again. Vacations are supposed to be fun but Disney and DVC has made it more like work with all of their rules, policies, processes. To have a fun vacation you have to track dates and book for everything from dining, fast passes, park hours, banking DVC, booking DVC, walking reservations, booking special events, having to transfer points is just another negative.

I would wait it out and keep bugging your guide. DVD has increased ROFR and dues will be due soon so ROFRs will increase, so will the foreclosures.

If you have to do a new master, I believe the minimum is 50 points. Might be another reason he/she is suggesting it.

Issue is that i have to be IN the states to buy direct. That doesn’t mean I’m just gonna buy anything. Plan is still to buy BWV in my UY, but my guide did tell me that AKV was available in my UY. As with BWV I would need to bank and borrow to get use of it.

Instead of transferring points between accounts couldn’t i just link them somehow?

If you have to do a new master, I believe the minimum is 50 points. Might be another reason he/she is suggesting it.

That’s what I though too, but maybe that rule is not set in stone.
