Yes, we made it on our December 1st Wonder cruise! My friend was so funny, whe hobbled into the Hyatt with a walker, but ditched it at her first opportunity (the second her husband left, lol). She used the stroller to lean on at times when her leg started to feel like a lead weight.
I have so many things to say...
The ship is GORGEOUS! I didn't think it showed any wear and it was SPOTLESS. They were cleaning CONSTANTLY (with bleach and water- but the bleach was not over-powering at all). I felt that they were making a huge effort to keep their guests healthy- service in the buffet lines, assisting with condiments, gloves, etc. I mean, they didn't even allow you to grab your own plate from a stack. They really did a good job here. Despite all this, my friend was violently ill the last day of our cruise (after Castaway Cay, thank God). She initially thought it was the ribs at Cookies (my children and I did not eat ribs), because it was a couple of hours later that she started to not feel right. The nurse in the health center even confirmed that a few others who were sick reported eating the ribs, but then there were SO many people we met who had eaten the ribs who had no problem (to include Nedleycan's son who was reported to eat a stack of them
). Yes, I met Linda! I met her in port (lol, she found me by looking for a long baby in a green backpack- as we joked about). I saw her several times a day and it was always a great pleasure. She is a very nice person- always greeting you with a big smile. You could tell she was having a good time, making lemonade from lemons, and meeting her was actually a highlight for me. Anyway, back to what I was saying, Fran now believes it was not the ribs, but instead a virus which she may or may not have picked up on the ship. Disney's health center treated her SO well. They gave her some over the counter medication to help and after she'd returned to our cabin to rest, they sent her up a ton of bottled water and powerade. Fran could not stop vomiting and dry heaving, so she had to go and get a shot. She felt much better soon after that.
Hmmmmm... there have been mention of no clocks in the cabins? Well on our cruise they had clocks on our nightstands. They were shaped like a propellor, goldish brown in color and you could purchase them either by taking that one or by going to the Treasure Ketch (they were $40.00) and also had an alarm feature. Just wanted to pass that along.
We had stateroom 7541 and it really served us nicely. It was just around the corner from the elevator and we heard NO noise from the elevator crowds and very little hall noise. We could also see the laundry room from our room, but it was not close enough to be disruptive. I would stay in this cabin again without hesitation. We didn't get any stateroom service on Monday. We never made it out of our stateroom until probably 10:00 and then returned again around noon I think to lay the kids down for a nap. I think our timing was just off. Our stateroom host, Keyhand (I think that is how it is spelled) was very nice and promptly took care of special requests, but didn't do too much in the way of towel animals. I was kinda looking forward to that for the kids. He did one, but it was not as whimsical as some of the others we'd seen hanging in other staterooms (yes, we peeked at those AWESOME verandahs- the difference was night and day, literally. I loved the the daylight in the room with the verandah, but it was also nice to be able to nap in a pitch black room. You'd wake feeling like it was the middle of the night, which was a bit weird at first (at 2 in the afternoon).
We avoided the pools. We were around them a few times and I did not see any diapered babies in the pools. They all seemed potty trained.
Mikaela loved the kids club, though gave me a hard time dropping her off once, but she does that even here with Montessori. Just her way with me. Once there, she had a ball and requested to stay longer a couple of times. I rec'd a call via beeper once for her stating she wanted to be picked up, and I promptly went to get her. She wouldn't leave with me when I got there. Probably just wanted to see if I REALLY was reachable.
My son hated Flounders. He was there 3 times so that I could go to the spa, dueling pianos (adult version) and Palo. Dawn who works in Flounders is VERY nice and good at what she does. I did have a negative experience though, and made comment on my card at the end of cruise. I went to Palo one night. They knew I was in Palo. When I returned to pick up Sam, this one lady rudely asked me if I had my beeper with me (it was all in the tone). I said of course and felt a mothers panic instantly set it. I explained that I was in Palo (quiet) and had made a point to take the beeper out. She says 'well we have been trying to reach you for almost 2 hours, he has not stopped crying since you dropped him off'. At this point, I was really mad and said that there was clearly something wrong with the beeper. Sure enough, they tested it and it was defective. I regretfully did not get her name, but the girl had long dark wavy hair with red streaks in it. I was never pleased with her, but both times I took Sam back after that, Dawn was there and he seemed to fair better with her. He was still not happy, but as Dawn reported 'as long as we don't touch his blanket, remove him from the stroller or look at him, we're fine, lol (it was Sam to a tee that week). He found comfort in a blanket and stroller. I was so angry that this woman made me feel like I'd neglected my son. Hello! He was with a bunch of strangers. I would have answered a call in a heartbeat.
I missed a lot. My children were not well behaved on the cruise and it was exhausting and down right disappointing. I'd wished I'd not brought them and it will be a long time before they go again. They are just too young. There was so much I wanted to do with them, but they were miserable. I basically missed all photo opportunities because of their behavior too. We only had two pictures taken of us, because they were too miserable to bother with anymore than than. The good thing about that is that I didn't even spend an 1/8th of what I planned to spend on pictures, so I can use that to develop the zillion rolls of film I have.
I actually thought I did very well with money. I had a $50.00 stateroom credit and my final bill was $454. It included about 7 hours at Flounders, photos, drinks (less than $100.00) and tips (tipped our server well) and more than $100 in souvenirs.
I'm planning to book again for maybe next year for just my husband and I and we will take along my step-children (from his previous marriage). They so wanted to go with me. They are 10 and 13 and would LOVE the cruise. It will also give him some time to enjoy the older kids. The little ones are obviously more needy, so it's sometimes hard to really have 1:1 time with the older ones.
I'm sure I'll think of more later....
