Yes, we made it on our December 1st Wonder cruise! My friend was so funny, whe hobbled into the Hyatt with a walker, but ditched it at her first opportunity (the second her husband left, lol). She used the stroller to lean on at times when her leg started to feel like a lead weight.

I have so many things to say...

The ship is GORGEOUS! I didn't think it showed any wear and it was SPOTLESS. They were cleaning CONSTANTLY (with bleach and water- but the bleach was not over-powering at all). I felt that they were making a huge effort to keep their guests healthy- service in the buffet lines, assisting with condiments, gloves, etc. I mean, they didn't even allow you to grab your own plate from a stack. They really did a good job here. Despite all this, my friend was violently ill the last day of our cruise (after Castaway Cay, thank God). She initially thought it was the ribs at Cookies (my children and I did not eat ribs), because it was a couple of hours later that she started to not feel right. The nurse in the health center even confirmed that a few others who were sick reported eating the ribs, but then there were SO many people we met who had eaten the ribs who had no problem (to include Nedleycan's son who was reported to eat a stack of them ;)). Yes, I met Linda! I met her in port (lol, she found me by looking for a long baby in a green backpack- as we joked about). I saw her several times a day and it was always a great pleasure. She is a very nice person- always greeting you with a big smile. You could tell she was having a good time, making lemonade from lemons, and meeting her was actually a highlight for me. Anyway, back to what I was saying, Fran now believes it was not the ribs, but instead a virus which she may or may not have picked up on the ship. Disney's health center treated her SO well. They gave her some over the counter medication to help and after she'd returned to our cabin to rest, they sent her up a ton of bottled water and powerade. Fran could not stop vomiting and dry heaving, so she had to go and get a shot. She felt much better soon after that.

Hmmmmm... there have been mention of no clocks in the cabins? Well on our cruise they had clocks on our nightstands. They were shaped like a propellor, goldish brown in color and you could purchase them either by taking that one or by going to the Treasure Ketch (they were $40.00) and also had an alarm feature. Just wanted to pass that along.

We had stateroom 7541 and it really served us nicely. It was just around the corner from the elevator and we heard NO noise from the elevator crowds and very little hall noise. We could also see the laundry room from our room, but it was not close enough to be disruptive. I would stay in this cabin again without hesitation. We didn't get any stateroom service on Monday. We never made it out of our stateroom until probably 10:00 and then returned again around noon I think to lay the kids down for a nap. I think our timing was just off. Our stateroom host, Keyhand (I think that is how it is spelled) was very nice and promptly took care of special requests, but didn't do too much in the way of towel animals. I was kinda looking forward to that for the kids. He did one, but it was not as whimsical as some of the others we'd seen hanging in other staterooms (yes, we peeked at those AWESOME verandahs- the difference was night and day, literally. I loved the the daylight in the room with the verandah, but it was also nice to be able to nap in a pitch black room. You'd wake feeling like it was the middle of the night, which was a bit weird at first (at 2 in the afternoon).

We avoided the pools. We were around them a few times and I did not see any diapered babies in the pools. They all seemed potty trained.

Mikaela loved the kids club, though gave me a hard time dropping her off once, but she does that even here with Montessori. Just her way with me. Once there, she had a ball and requested to stay longer a couple of times. I rec'd a call via beeper once for her stating she wanted to be picked up, and I promptly went to get her. She wouldn't leave with me when I got there. Probably just wanted to see if I REALLY was reachable.

My son hated Flounders. He was there 3 times so that I could go to the spa, dueling pianos (adult version) and Palo. Dawn who works in Flounders is VERY nice and good at what she does. I did have a negative experience though, and made comment on my card at the end of cruise. I went to Palo one night. They knew I was in Palo. When I returned to pick up Sam, this one lady rudely asked me if I had my beeper with me (it was all in the tone). I said of course and felt a mothers panic instantly set it. I explained that I was in Palo (quiet) and had made a point to take the beeper out. She says 'well we have been trying to reach you for almost 2 hours, he has not stopped crying since you dropped him off'. At this point, I was really mad and said that there was clearly something wrong with the beeper. Sure enough, they tested it and it was defective. I regretfully did not get her name, but the girl had long dark wavy hair with red streaks in it. I was never pleased with her, but both times I took Sam back after that, Dawn was there and he seemed to fair better with her. He was still not happy, but as Dawn reported 'as long as we don't touch his blanket, remove him from the stroller or look at him, we're fine, lol (it was Sam to a tee that week). He found comfort in a blanket and stroller. I was so angry that this woman made me feel like I'd neglected my son. Hello! He was with a bunch of strangers. I would have answered a call in a heartbeat.

I missed a lot. My children were not well behaved on the cruise and it was exhausting and down right disappointing. I'd wished I'd not brought them and it will be a long time before they go again. They are just too young. There was so much I wanted to do with them, but they were miserable. I basically missed all photo opportunities because of their behavior too. We only had two pictures taken of us, because they were too miserable to bother with anymore than than. The good thing about that is that I didn't even spend an 1/8th of what I planned to spend on pictures, so I can use that to develop the zillion rolls of film I have.

I actually thought I did very well with money. I had a $50.00 stateroom credit and my final bill was $454. It included about 7 hours at Flounders, photos, drinks (less than $100.00) and tips (tipped our server well) and more than $100 in souvenirs.

I'm planning to book again for maybe next year for just my husband and I and we will take along my step-children (from his previous marriage). They so wanted to go with me. They are 10 and 13 and would LOVE the cruise. It will also give him some time to enjoy the older kids. The little ones are obviously more needy, so it's sometimes hard to really have 1:1 time with the older ones.

I'm sure I'll think of more later....

I hadn't realized how much I actually typed!

I also wanted to mention that getting home yesterday was a NIGHTMARE! We arrived at the airport around 10:00 am and never got to Hartford CT until about 12:30 in the morning. Our flight out Orlando to Washington was delayed an hour or more and then we were stranded in Washington for several hours. Finally we boarded a United Express Jet. Wow, I was a little nervous about getting into that little baby due to the weather, but it was the NICEST plane ride ever. And we were the VERY FIRST passengers to ride in it! I had wondered why the seat belts were neatly criss-crossing the seats and then we were told the plane was brand new.

I know what you mean about missing out because of Sam. I took my 17 month old Cade and missed out on every show and movie. He did make it through dinner fine and I tried 2 times to put him in Flounders. They were evry nice. I don't remember the lady you described but I would have been furious if she had that tone and it was the pagers fault. Anyway Cade would not stay either so he was attached to me the whole time which his how he is all day anyway. I was pleased with Flounders. I was looking forward to dining at Animators Palate and had made ressies for Cade. Well he cried the whole time which I did not know but a nice african american CM walked him up and down the halls and even took him over to watch the older kids in kids club just so I could enjoy my meal. As soon as dinner was over I was paged. I asked them why they did not page me sooner and they said they wanted me to enjoy at least one meal. I have plans to go back next October with my 5 year old DS and will be leaving Cade with his Nana :)

I am so glad you had a good time. I had read some of your earlier posts and you were you a little concerned about whether to go or not. I remember when DD8 was little and we would go somewhere, sometimes I wished I had just stayed at home!;)

Thanks for the report. One thing I was wondering about though was how old are your children?

I never got off in Nassau. We did in Freeport and I doubt I'll ever get off there again. I've been told that if I didn't like Freeport, I wouldn't like Nassau. Castaway Cay was PARADISE! I have never seen a place so beautiful in my life. I could live there. The water was cold at first, but once in it was okay. They said the water temp was like 76, but it felt even colder than that. The air was beautiful the whole trip, definitively cooler at night.

We initially were going to do ladies night at the spa, but it was $150 and my friend was treating me. I didn't want her to spend that much. We instead opted to give the Reflexology a try with an added back of body massage (it would have been a 50 minute treatment for $89.00). Well we were running late, so only had time for the back of body massage. It was INCREDIBLE! I have never felt so relaxed in my life!

We were very pleased with the food on the cruise. Sid was our head server (and we saw quite a bit of him). Tobias was our assistant server and Attila was our server. Fran joked that Attila liked me, lol. He always did seem out to please me the most, but it honestly was probably because he saw how stressed out I was with the kids. He was a real gentleman and I'll admit to having a little crush on him, lol. Nothing wrong with a married woman having a perfectly innocent crush, right? lol. He just had the sweetest personality and I loved his laugh.

Palo Palo Palo....

We do not dine like this at home, it's just not our lifestyle and I was a little intimidated when it came to experiencing Palo, but my God, I could eat there EVERY night! The food was amazing! I have never in my life tasted stuffed chicken like that! And the mushroom risotto, portobello starter and the bread they bring you topped with the mushroom and cheese was TDF! The whole place is an orgasmic experience- you hear lots of oooh's and ahhh's from surrounding tables. We met a nice couple there too, celebrating their 23rd anniversary and I swear they were still on their honeymoon. I have never in my life seen a couple so in love. They were beautiful people and had adult children a 3 year old they PLANNED! I took photos of them to send them, as they had a special anniversary plate made for them and the pro. photographer had already left.

more to come, I'm sure!

Tammy....just a note from a bad experience....you can never tell how what one eats is going to effect them or the next person...

Right before Thanksgiving a few years ago...my DH and I ate a pizza that he had brought home when he came from work. He ate...I ate. By the middle fo the night..I was so sick I could barely move...so I just laid in the bathroom on the floor. To make this long story short....he was not sick for one second. I was sick for a month. DH is a pharmacist and I was taking RX stomach and diahrrea medication...did absolutely no good. One of the paramedics here at work told me there had to be some bacteria in/on that pizza somewhere and it mixed with my system....and all the medication in the world would not help until it FINALLY worked its way out of my system.

So, you just never know...something in the ribs probably just didn't agree with your friend...but didn't bother others.

Glad you made it home...my godson lives and works in DC and he had to walk to work yesterday!!

Take care..
Phyllis

Reveric, my children are 17 1/2 months and 3 (turned 3 in August).

BuzzandWoody's mom, Dawn was so nice when it came to my spa treatment. She knew I was a little worried about leaving him knowing he didn't fair well before, but she assured me that they would do everything possible to make him happy (which really ended up being to just leave him alone). She said they would not beep me before the 50 minute treatment was over. She really understood that I needed some time.

Also, when I made my spa ressie, Sam was fit to be tied. He was screaming his lungs out and I'm thinking 'yeah, these people are going to need to double book spa tx's after being here with my son'. Well a guy that works in the spa came over and worked magic, literally. He was SOOOO good with Sam. I've never seen any stranger be able to soothe my son.

Phyllis, you know there really wasn't even that much snow in DC. Maybe it's just because I'm from VT, but everyone seemed to be in a panic over nothing. Well, this is certainly not to say the airlines didn't have cause to cancel or delay flights. I know that you don't need to have a lot of snow to hinder visibility or take-off/landing ability. The one thing that made me mad in the end was that they said our flight was being delayed because of a mechanical problem. Then we get word that the plane has cleared mechanics and is being sent over for us. Then we get on this beautiful NEW plane. I just think they were not being truthful (or rather the clerks really weren't being told the truth). They were VERY nice to my children and I though and got us blankets and pillows. The airport was FREEZING. They took my daughter behind the counter with them while I changed Sam's diaper in the restroom (they asked if they could keep her, lol). Mikaela loved it. The people on our flight were so helpful. They carried all of my carryon's (I had a lot) and one nice lady carried my daughter for me. They did this all the way to baggage claim where we met my husband. They really made life so much easier for me and you could tell it made them feel good to help.

Tammy,
Just got in a couple of hours ago. Thanks for all the kind words (I am blushing), but it was also a highlight for me to meet you. You are a wonderful, fun, beautiful (no wonder Attila was giving you extra attention) - although... we had him (and Sid and Tobias for late seating) too, and I could have sworn he gave me extra attention (and winked at me once - haha)!!!!
I will have to give a trip report too, but had to reply to this post.
Tammy kids are wonderful and very sweet. I agree that they were probably too young. I feel that my almost 4 year old was just old enough, and we are going to rebook (with out 1/2 price voucher) March/April 2004 when he is over 5 years old. My daughter (5.5) LOVED the cruise so much. And for anyone who was on the cruise, she was the one dancing every chance she got!
We had such a great time!!!!

We were also blamed for not responding to a page on our cruise. They gave us the guilt trip also. I am not sure why we didn't receive the page, but the counselors are really quick to point fingers. Really makes you wonder if the pagers are there just to keep the counselor to child ratio at a controllable level. I have to say that the other cruise lines we have cruised on without pagers, we were much more relaxed without the pagers and didn't receive any negative feedback like we did on DCL. I really think some of DCL's counselors find anyway they can to page parents to remove children from the children's program so they have less children to deal with.

As someone who has been the 'beeper lady' for the last 12 years I think I have a fair amount of experience on this subject. First and foremost...they aren't perfect and no they may not always work-batteries die and signals can be interfeared with. The CM's need to understand this...I wish some of my clients would have understood! From my 3 cruises with my DD we were fortunate that the beepers did work and the CM's could reach us. My-Rumby-Tumbly I'm disapointed that they didn't try to 'find' you when the child was upset for 2 hours...I just don't understand people sometimes...pixie dust to all and thanks for letting me add my .02

Thanks for the nice "trip report." We appreciate the info. I especially like your honesty in all this. You put blame where blame was due (the rude CM at <I>Flounders</I>), but were also perceptive and honest enough to say <I>"My children were not well behaved on the cruise and it was exhausting and down right disappointing. I'd wished I'd not brought them and it will be a long time before they go again. They are just too young."</I>

Question: You mentioned the gloves. I know that the CMs who work the buffets and counter service wear gloves. Are the dining room servers also wearing them now? I am <I>really</I> hoping they don't, as it would really spoil the experience. Cleanliness is a requisite, but . . .

I do not remember the servers wearing gloves. But, maybe I have forgotten something?!?! Being served at the buffet was kinda nice, so that isn't a concern. Also, our servers and our cabin attendant shaked hands with us, which I was surprised by, but also pleased about.
