Hi,

Does anybody know can I add our 1YR old to the dining plan? Or would they also need to have a park ticket to be on the dining plan?

Our DD has started to eat a lot more and after looking at the kids menu pricing, it looks like it'd be ideal if we could just add her to the dining plan.

Thanks!

- Chris

EDIT:
I should have read the entire dining plan brochure before posting :)
"The Disney Deluxe Dining Plan is unavailable for Guests under the age of 3, but they may share from an adult plate at no charge or a meal may be purchased from the menu. The price of the meal will be added to your bill. Guests ages 3-9 must order from a children’s menu where available."

You would need to purchase at least a one day park ticket for your 1 year old also. (Since you'd all be on the same package you'd buy a one day for everyone and then upgrade your tickets once you get there)

I would guess that you would be able to mostly fill her up by sharing from your entree, and then maybe supplementing with an occasional kids meal. That will probably be cheaper than the DDP/park ticket for your daughter.

Don't forget - at buffets, family style, and with AYCE skillets - your DD eats for free (and can have her own plate) without the DDP.

Wow - I didn't realize that! We may need to book some more family style/buffet meals instead of off-the-menu style :)

That is what we are doing with our two and one year olds. Just a lot of buffet and family style meals.

Technically speaking you cannot buy the dining plan for a child under age 3 at all. If you wanted to do so, when you made the reservation you would have to give the child's age as 3. That is why you would also have to purchase a park ticket - as far as Disney is concerned, that child is 3.

As has been posted, there isn't a lot of reason to register a 1 year old as 3, as the child can share at any restaurant and eats free at all buffets and family style all-you-can-eat places. Realistically how much does a one-year-old eat? Would sharing work at anyplace that isn't a buffet? Would it cost you more to buy the child some food occasionally, or pay for a park ticket for the child? Anyone considering upgrading an infant's age to get the dining plan needs to consider these.

Yeah, we weren't aware of the buffet/family style meals and that < 3 get to eat free at them. So, for the non-buffet meals, we're just going to make it work --- between all of us, there will be plenty of food to share around :goodvibes

Also, if you need to, you can just order a side for her, like mashed potatoes or something, and pay for that. It would cost very little!

Or get a yogurt or something with a snack credit, or juices or something. I bet while you're out at the parks, there are little snacks she could enjoy.

I wouldn't worry - have fun!

Our youngest will turn 3 just a week after we leave, so we can not get her on the DDP either. So some of the TS meals that we are going to do are Crystal Palace, 'Ohana, Chef Mickey's, Hollywood & Vine, Tusker House and 1900 Park Fare; all of which are buffets. I'd rather eat at a buffet and her have her own plate for free that eat at an actual sit down restaurant.

Got this right from the WDW site

I am under the impression that under 3 yo can share at any resturant from an adult plate. I don't think it has to be buffet. Can anyone else verify this? Why limit yourself to just buffets?

Yeah, they can share at any restaurant from the adult plate --- at buffets and family style means they get their own plate :)

We have been on the DDP our last 2 visits when DD was 10mo. then 22mo. Both times she shared from our plates. Menu restaurants will give you a plate for the little one to share your food. Like a PP said, you can also use your snack credits to get things like carrot sticks and grapes in the parks to keep the baby happy.

There will be plenty of food to share, you get plenty of food on the DDP!

They can share at ANY restaurant. If you're not at a buffet or family style meal and you order food specifically for them, you must pay for it. But they can share off your plate and you don't have to order them anything. The dilemma may arise if the shared food is not enough for the child or the other party members don't want to share, and the family wants to order the child their own meal. If a meal is ordered for the child, it has to be paid for.

At a buffet or family style meal, everyone in the party is required to order the meal except for infants under 3, and they can eat as much as they want.

Kid's meals are relatively cheap. Just buy one and pay for it. At the buffets, no problem at all. Just fill up a plate for the child.
