For those of you who have done acupunture, I would love to hear your opinion on it and if you had a good experience. I personally don't have any friends or family that has had this done so I have no one else to ask.

I have never been to one and was thinking of going for various medical reasons but am skeptical if it really does help. My ins doesn't cover it so I would be paying out of pocket which is another reason I am hesitant to go.
Would love to hear anyones experience :) Thank you

My stepdd is an acupuncturist. In my experience, it works very well and I prefer a non-invasive, non-medication process if possible. I have a friend who is in a wheelchair and has a lot of pain and she swears by it.

You could try Accupressure first if you just wanted to test the waters.

I used accupuncture for position vertigo that I had had for over 3 months. I had tried all the medications and nothing was helpin. AFter 3 visits it was gone. I loved it. I actually felt more relaxed and in a good place when I walked out of the office than after a massage.

My insurance didn't cover it either which is sad. But it helped and I haven't had a vertigo episode since.

Good Luck

Thank you all for the replies so quickly. After reading your opinions I decided to go a head a make an apt (for tomorrow actually). I am kind of nervous and excited at the same time. I am hoping with some of my medical issues this will help. Thanks again :)

Let us know how it goes! I'm thinking of also going to an accupuncturist. My insurance will cover a portion of it. I had some accupuncture about a million years ago when our old family physician had a guy in his office who did it. It felt really good having it done and I felt great, until I got to the door of the medical office and had to step outside. But, that's my own issue. The accupuncture was a good thing.

It was really something when the accupuncture needle would hit the muscle and I could feel the muscle go **SPROING** and release. Really cool. I think it would be immensely helpful for this myofascial pain syndrome thing I've got going on. I need to make that appointment!

I did something to my back in June where I literally could not move. It hurt to even put my chin down. My DR prescribed muscle relaxers and pain pills for 4 months. I hate anything that makes me feel dopey and really did not want to take drugs so I began to look for an alternative.

A friend recommended me to her accupunturist and since it was 100% covered by my insurance I figured I would give it a try.

BEST THING I EVER DID!!! After being in extreme pain for nearly 3 weeks I felt relief after the very first visit. I went once a week for the first month and then every other week for the next 2 months.

I have almost complete relief from the pain now  And that came without having to drug myself for months at a time. If it flares up at all I will just make an appointment.

One thing I will say is that no accupuncturist is the same. Mine of course stuck the needles in the key places but then also hooked up some type of electrode machine to the needles. It sent tiny little shocks directly to the nerves (which is what I think really helped in my case). Then after 15mins of that they would follow up the session with a 15min massage to relax the muscles. It really was pure bliss :cloud9:

I know other people who have used accupuncture and it is just the needles that are used and nothing else. Try and get some recomendations from people who use one regularly. Good luck and I hope you feel better!

What type of insurance do you have??? My insurance does cover it if you qualify for it. I didnt even though I needed it for pain and am unable to take over the counter meds because I have high liver enzymes-fatty liver.Over counter meds will raise my enzymes even higher. I also have highblood pressure I was told sorry no coverage
. . If i was pregnant i could qualify if i had morning sickness:confused3

I started going to balance my hormones and to get a period. Somehow it also ended up curing the pain I felt in my feet-lol! I was in constant daily pain in my feet. I sttod or walked a lot i'd be dying at the end up the day. Now I've been to an amusment park and I out walk my family-lol! No more pain or feeling horrible in my feet. I also feel more relaxed. I'm also sleeping a lot better. I pay outta pocket and it is getting expensive but I have my life back:cool1:

To OP- please give us an update

I love acupuncture and wish it was covered under my current insurance.

My old insurance covered it and I went for my migraines. I would get daily headaches and a few BAD migraines a month. After just a few treatments I saw a huge difference in the amount and intensity of them and after a while they pretty much stopped. What I found to be a huge difference was my body's ability to fight a headache off by itself. I got a migraine while on vacation in Hawaii just a few months after I started going to acupuncture (probably from being tired from the time difference and being dehydrated) and I didn't want to take my migraine meds since they make me feel out of it the rest of day and I didn't want to be out of commission all day.

So I went to my room, put some pressure on the pressure points my acupuncturist said helped with headaches and just relaxed for about half an hour and it went away on it's own.

It also helped relax me and I felt so great when I would leave a session. If it weren't so expensive I would still be going.

....it helped both the pain in my knees (I made a visit the day before we went to WDW! :rotfl: ) and my neck. On my very first visit, I actually FELL ASLEEP!
