I have read all the posts about the Swan having Queen size beds, and the Dolphin having Double Double size beds which are suppose to be bigger than a regular double.

Does anyone know the dimensions of these double doubles?
I have from a mattress website: Queen:60" by 80"
Double: 53" by 75"
Double XL: 53" by 80"

Could they have a bed that is made just for them, with special size sheets? I am just trying to figure out what the size is before we decide on spending two nights at either the Swan or the Dolphin. Thanks!!!:wave2:

A previous poster said the Dolphin beds were 1 inch smaller than a queen. We stayed there this summer and didn't notice a difference between their oversized Double and our Queen bed at home, and that was with a kid in bed with us much of the time.

If you want a more specific and reliable answer, call the Dolphin and ask them. The staff there is extremely helpful.

about this, the friendly staff told me the same thing that the Dolphin beds were only one square inch smaller than the queen used at the Swan.

We've stayed at the Dolphin several times and I agree that we didn't notice a difference in those beds and our queen at home. We dislike a double very much and think we'd have noticed if it was that size.

I agree totally with kda, we normally sleep in a queen at home and when traveling and have to sleep in a double, well I hate it. But I didn't really notice any difference in the beds at the Dolphin, I wouldn't let the bed thing be the deciding factor. I personally like the Dolphin better, it's bigger, with more restaurant options, beautiful lobby... I just like it better. Matter of fact we'll be staying there next summer again!

Thanks for all the info guys! I think I will give the Dolphin a call too and see if they will give me actual dimensions!:magnify:

I like the idea that the Dolphin is closer to the grotto pool and Tubbies. Makes it more convenient for my teen DD's. The Dolphin only has one sink though. That could be a problem! I'm checking on one thing at a time.:scratchin

Thanks for asking this question. I was wondering the same thing after booking our upcoming Dolphin stay.

Well, I finally called the Dolphin today, and here is what I found out:

The double double beds at the Dolphin are 2 inches smaller in width than a tradtional size queen bed. Therefore if a queen is 60" wide, their double double is 58" wide, and a regular double is 53" wide.

Furthermore, 691 of the Dolphin's 1507 rooms have been renovated with the heavenly beds so far. They are currently working on the 7th floor, and the lower floors are already complete. The completion date aimed for is August of 2004. The CM I spoke with, said they would be taking a break on renovation over the Christmas holidays. Rooms closer to the renovation might hear some construction noise when they are working. The decor in both the Swan and the Dolphin rooms are to be the same.

Also of note are two new restaurants: The Blue Zoo opening in mid November, is a seafood restaurant. Now open is Fresh, located where Juan and Only's use to be. It serves a breakfast buffet, or an la carte menu, and lunch. No dinner.

The CM I spoke with also told me that there is no difference in room size between the resorts, but I know I read somewhere that the Swan is 340 sq ft., while the Dolphin is 360 sq ft.

Hopefully this settles the question of the size of the Dolphin beds! Now to make my decision as to which resort to pick.:scratchin

Thanks, everyone! This is another reason why I love the Dis! I also assumed that the doubles at the Dolphin were average size doubles. Now that I know the truth, I won't hesitate to book one.

Thanks for the update on Dolphin renovations. We will be there in Dec and hope for a renovated Jr. Suite.

What a great post! You answered all of my questions (and for many other, I'm sure!).
