Hi so now that the new DAS has been in effect for awhile of now, I have been surprised by the lack of post's of actual conversations of those who used to get it as opposed to now, I have got DAS in the past as well as my mother. I know the old reason's are not covered by the new rules but i am interested in real experiances and conversaitions about what people are experiancing now trying to get it, not how long teh line was or I had to wait hours on the phone just to get disconnected. From what i have heard it sounds like Disney is conducting a very harsh interrogation that leaves people in tears, I am going in Sept, and I wonder it it is even woth trying. I dont want to be interrogated or be insulted to what is a special trip for me. I am traveling solo, so I dont know if that makes a difference. Also how the new options like having to leave the queo and coming back if you are alone. any info would be appreciated.

Yes I would like to know what questions they ask as well. There are lots of solo travelers that have used DAS before. If you are by yourself does that make a difference at all.

Yes, please go over to the DISabilities board…there are over 400 pages on material to review. One thread is actual conversations with those who have already applied and been accepted/rejected and the other is just pages and pages of people rambling and venting.

Noted.

@tenneycjt

We can sift through the pages on the Disabilities board. Do not bother to ask about DAS experiences at Disneyland on this board. Reddit is a better source of information at this point.

Yeah I thought it would be easier to get disneyland specifice experinces on this thread not on a thread tha has 500 responses, My mistake I don't think its very helpful to tell people to go to other threads especially when I see plenty of questions that are repeated over and over here, My mistake, the original thread on here had very little information on it. If you dont have an answer simply dont reply,

Because Das was fairly new back thwn, and I thought a new thread would be more timely with more time having passed.

Go to the thread that is just about people's experiences. Then click the search magnifying glass on the top right of this page. Type in the word "Disneyland." Where it says "Everywhere" click the drop down and select "this thread." Then click search.

It will give you three pages Disneyland experiences.

The Mods work very, very hard to not turn this board into all the Facebook and reddit boards that have become cesspools. These boards are drama free and the discussions are real and but respectful.

No one can tell you what questions they will ask, how to answer or what is right for you or your family. There are many experiences on the Disabilities boards. The experiences are as individual as the reasons people can't do the lines.

I had no issue with my experience, it really was no different then before except for an added question and that I could tell it was in a call center now. The CM was very nice and the questions were pretty normals. It barely lasted 15 minutes. Everyone should call if they believe they need DAS.

Thanks for this detailed instruction... I didn't realize this was doable, and will be super helpful.

My son has always had DAS (except for our first trip when we didn't know about it, and we had several disastrous episodes in the park - including losing him for a period of time). I actually found the experience much more pleasant after the changes than we had experienced previously. The cast member was extremely kind and reassuring even as she was firm about what would qualify him and what wouldn't. In the past I've had cast members at guest services sneer at me or give me the side eye when I tried to describe my son's challenges, as if they didn't believe me (and with the number of people who were lying - I don't blame them). I even had a lot of connection problems with the video chat (due to using a VPN) and she reassured me in the chat that she would keep initiating video calls with me until we finished our conversation and I wouldn't lose my place in the queue. The challenge seems to be the inconsistency of the application of the new DAS guidelines and my positive experience with the cast member certainly isn't the universal experience, but I do think those with negative experiences are more likely to post about it and those posts seem to get a bit more air time (not on these boards, but on the internet generally - the mods here are amazing). I hope that is encouraging to you.

I have applied at Disneyland and was denied (I expected to be under the new criteria). I go solo sometimes and was solo the day I applied. My cast member was very nice and ended up giving me any time LL that day which were not needed. It was a pretty quiet evening. The other day I went solo it was also not too crowded and I was able to manage fairly well (and lucked into getting to ROTR just as it was reopening after being down so no wait) with short waits and single rider.

I was able to get my mother approved though. So we have also been using her DAS when she goes with me. Had another very nice CM when I applied in person for her.

Here is my (very recent) experience:

We had a positive experience. After trying unsuccessfully to do the phone interview (12 hours on hold before being cut off), we tried in person at the park. We went to the Accessibility booth the day before our first park day and were told they only talked to people who had park reservations for that day, but that we could go online for the virtual interview from the park and would be given priority to talk to someone because we were at the park. I was skeptical, but we were talking to a CM in maybe 10 minutes.

We did the call from my phone, and I started out telling the CM in one sentence why my daughter needed DAS, then handed the phone over to her for the rest of it. (My daughter is a college student.) She was asked the same questions I've heard from others that they ask -- what do you do when you're in other lines, like the grocery store, do you have accommodations at school and how do you handle that, how does your condition affect you, etc. I don't remember if they asked how her condition might affect others who are around her in line, but I don't think so. It was actually very fast. We were on the call only two or three minutes before she was approved. I was very surprised that it was so quick. My daughter has been approved for DAS in the past, but I have heard reports of others with her condition who have been denied recently, so I'm not sure what tipped the scales in her favor.
