On the way back from lunch, I drove by the Senior Center. On the marquee they are advertising a kayaking trip next month. I love it! The seniors that I know are all active and don't act as old as they are. It's a state of mind and I hope when I reach that age life is as good for me as it is for them. :)

Yeah, Granny Shannon - you do that. ;) I'll be right behind you in line.

I wish my dad wold do something like that. he mopes all day cause he is alone and doesn't try to help himself.

Gail, is there a senior center in his area? If he doesn't drive anymore, maybe they have transportation. Socializing helps them so much.

You might get a kick out of this story! My father is 84. About a year ago, he was "seeing" not one, not two, but THREE different women! No big deal BUT each of them didn't know about the other!! When they used to call, I would take the phone out to him and smile and say "Guess which one?" ;) I used to tease him and tell him that he better tell them all about the other before "his time came". I could see his viewing....3 different old ladies, all mourning over him, then finding out his secret and the viewing turning into an all out cat fight! :bounce: One of the ladies started to get "too serious" so, instead of being a gentleman and breaking it off honestly, he tells her he has the gout and can't go out to eat anymore...doctor's orders! :earseek: I told him he was setting a bad example for his grandson! Lately, he has decided to "see" this woman again. She asks him one day while they are eating out, "How's the gout?" He answers, "What gout?" My father....the stud-muffin!!

Too cute! I had a great aunt that passed away a year or two ago in her late 80's, early 90's. She wore shorts and sleeveless shirts in the summer and had a better tan than most younger people. What tickled me was the orthopedic shoes that she wore with everything. :teeth: Great-grandma was in her late 80's before she got to the point she had to live with someone. Up until then, she was still pulling the refrigerator away from the wall to clean behind it! Thankfully both sides of my family live long, healthy lives.

Still chuckling at the cat fight mental image. :teeth:

tater, my dad still drives ( I dont think he should, he's hard of hearing but my brothers sez he can) so he can get out. he calls every morning to tell me he is going to do his exercise, 30 minutes to two grocerie stores then home again he is. he said he will not join a senior center cause they are all to old for him. I give up Tater, my dad will be the eathe of me yet or a nervous breakdown.

Does your schedule allow you to do things with him? Maybe take him for a picnic supper or a walk around the lake or something like that? A couple of hours several days a week may be just the thing to get him interested in life again.
