I swear I remember using this stuff last year successfully. This year, it's a nightmare. I rolled out the dough and used the cookie cutters. Last year's cookies were too cute. This year, the shapes got really, really puffy and now they look all distorted and weird. The trees are all rounded. The little dogs look like pigs. Nothing looks right. Am I nuts?? What did I do wrong this year? Maybe I used some other brand last year??? That's possible, I guess.

Oh no! I have Pillsbury Sugar cookie dough in my fridge right now to make cookies either today or tomorrow. I used it last year too and I had no problems. Now, I'm scared! Sorry I can't help with the problem though.

Sorry about your cookies but you made me laugh with the dogs that look like pigs, we haven't had any trouble this year but I made Frosty.

If you make them please post back to this thread, okay? I don't know what to do. These are positively embarrassing!! I think I'm going to have to make my own dough or try another brand.

Did you put the dough in the freezer for half an hour or longer? If not, try that.

Me too!!! Sorry, no help here either, but I will have visions of little piggies all night long.

I'll let you know what happens!

Well, I just called the 800 number on the wrapper. I told them my little scottie dogs look like big, fat piggies!! Last year, they looked just like scotties and were soo cute! I drew little bows on all their necks.

I just tasted one and they taste fine. Anyway, the gal on the phone told me that "yes, there is a leavening agent in the dough so they do and will get puffy. That's normal. They aren't going to be flat cookies." But I SWEAR this is the brand I used last year and this didn't happen!

I have a recipe so I think I may try making my own dough. I was just trying to cut corners!!!

Maybe your "tube" had more leavening than normal? I had a can of Diet Pepsi once that was WAY too sweet, like they put in twice as much NutraSweet as normal, and my mom had a can from the same pack that was that way too. Sometimes those assembley lines goof up and quality control doesn't catch it.

Maybe try another batch. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

It didn't happen last year, at least not with our cookies and I did use Pillsbury brand. Weird.

Oh no, that's what I just bought and it's a HUGE tube. LOL!!!

DH has been getting on me about making Christmas cookies and has also had the kids gain up on me also. Last time I tried to make Christmas cookies was 7 years ago and they turned out awful. Of course the pans that I was using were not the best either. I got them for a wedding shower gift and they probably cost about $3.00 for a set of 4 pans. When I tried to explain to DH that the pans aren't the best, he just gave me a look.

I don't care what he says, if I don't have decent cookie sheets to cook on, no matter what I do, the cookies are going to come out awful. Anyone else agree?

This year I invested in some good cookie sheets to try to make these Christmas cookies. LOL!!!!

Good luck with your cookies and please wish me luck with mine. LOL!!!

We just made Christams cookies this weekend with Pillsbury Sugar Cookie Dough.

We have Christmas trees, candy cane's, gingerbread men, and stars. They are delicious and looked very nice to us. DD did a great job decorating them.

Maybe it was just a fluke tube you got? Or maybe we just got really lucky. :confused3

One trick is to make sure your dough is really cold. It makes the dough tough to work with, but helps with the puff issue. Try two things. Make sure the counter top you are working on has been chilled. Place some ice in a baggie and place it on the area you will be working. If the cold dough is still tough for you to work with, then after you cut the cookie out, place it on parchment paper, and the put it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes, then carefully put the parchment paper (which by the way has already been pre cut to the size of your cookie sheet, and then place in oven.

This used to happen to us sometimes, although probably not as bad as yours sound. It was usually more that they got puffy - as in thick/bubbly - than that they lost their shape.

My grandmother's recipe starts with "Chill the house." I never understood why - I figured it just made it easier to roll out, so I didn't bother. It wasn't until years later that I realized it was to get the cookies to be flat.

First thing I thought of when I read this is make sure the dough is really cold AND roll it as thin as possible.

Good luck everyone!

OMG this happened to me last year... The kids helped out w/ the cookie cutters and everything ... it was alot of fun....then when I pull them out of the oven... (kids waiting anxiously to decorate them w/ sprinkles, glitter, ect) they are big puffy odd looking shapes... me and my oldest ds had a good laugh....while the youngest kept asking where's my christmas tree.... which one is the candy cane????

Down here in Texas I think I'll have more success making cookes this coming weekend than last weekend...last weekend it was 71 degrees (warmer in the kitchen!). Now it is about 30 degrees. My snickers "Santa's Surprise" cookies were dubbed "snickers blobs" but they tasted good!

i tried to use that dough arouns halloween and had the same thing happen to me. my pumpkins sure as heck didn't look like pumpkins!

i've finally found a recipe that works well for me...i made a huge batch of sugar cookie snowflakes! this last batch did puff a bit...they looked more like flowers until i decorated them. now they look like snowflakes! :)

Yikes! I was planning on taking the easy way out by getting the refrig. dough. Now is sounds like it might be better to make it was scratch. Which my DD will love more.
