Ack! Animator's Palate knife on eBay!!!

I think they should be a notice in the rooms and on the dining room tables that if guests should like to take an item home their onboard account will be automatically charged for that amount

Hotels have this on many items in their rooms, not at Disney but I have seen it at others. On their robes, beach bags that are there for your use during your stay, etc

It is disgusting. I spoke with my travel agent on the phone recently, Her boss was on the Maiden voyage and she was on the next one. Between them they say knives and menus being stolen, knobs from dressers being removed and stolen, and even floor tile pryed up from the elevator floor and taken:scared1: I honestly cannot undersatnd how anyone can act this way:sad2: I really wish DCL would go after such people--including removing them from the cruise when caught and not letting them sail again. If it stops being profitable, idiots will stop doing it and the rest of us can enjoy our cruises.

what?!!! no way...knobs from dressers? wouldn't DCL charge them for that?

wow that's sad...some people are animals.

I had asked the seller of the knife about a CM being able to sell an item bought from the CM's store.....and she/he had an explanation that there is some kind of form that they would sign at the register, there were some items (like Hummels) that they cannot sell, but other items are okay.

I'll have to ask my friend who is a CM, about this.

Um, no .....

Exactly.....I found out that not only are CM's NOT allowed to sell ANYTHING...but that the special CM store doesn't even stock items like this until 6 months after they've been either available in the regular Disney Stores, or on the ships. :sad2:
That same seller has other CM-only items listed.

...and don't forget the lovely passengers who think the pictures at Shutters are free!! Saw a man grab his stack and run up the back stairs. Nice! :sad2:

It's these pathetic people that need to recoup the money they spent on the MV. What's next on eBay, the red pillows or the putter from mini golf?

I'm sure when I go in April most of the items in my stateroom will be replacement items from people who decided to make a quick buck.

I can't believe that someone was willing to pay $20 plus the $5 shipping just to have a stupid butter knife. But I guess that's better than stealing one.
:confused3

That's what perpetuates people stealing them to sell...there are buyers out there.

Maybe DCL will make some necessary changes and have these items available for purchase!

If he thought the photos were FREE, he would not have to RUN.

I was on a Carnival cruise last month, and their pictures have little sensors on the back of them, and they have the bars that looking like metal detectors at each entrance to the photo shop. You might think they looked obnoxious, but they really didn't. And actually, I was glad they did it. I HATE people with "sticky fingers".

That's what I think they should do. Just have them available for sale.
And other posters that says things should be charged is spot on.
Although I think they'll have trouble really pursuing it just because they have no proof of who really took the items kinda thing.

Sad really... I really loved those butter knives too but I would never thought about stealing it.
Actually I asked about the Menu because it says MV on ours. And our server said yes. We didn't even ask about the dessert ones. If they had said no it would've been ok too.

When I was on the maiden voyage I went to a seminar as part of the platinum castaway club perks. We were told that Disney Cruise line is in the process of putting together items for sale. It is on the same idea as the booklets in the room at the Disney World resorts. Where you can buy the bed linens and other items. They could be shipped home. Hopefully this will come soon so people who want the items can buy them directly from Disney Cruise line and not from Ebay.

I saw that butter knife for sale and thought the same as others, that because of those kind of people I might never get to use one of those knives on my future cruise.

Taking parts of the ship is beyond anything I would have ever imagined some one would think they are 'entitled' to for taking the maiden voyage. When I saw those red pillows in pictures long before the ship was even finished, I told my DH that I was going to buy one of those when I got on board. I'm very surprised that they are not already for sale. Still, it would never occur to me that I could just take it. I hope all those people find themselves billed for the stolen items.

Actually they did this with the new cloth laundry bags that are in the closet on the Dream. They are embroidered with the DCL logo. There is a note to the effect that it is supposed to stay on the ship but if you love it that much you can take it home but you will be charged $5.00. They should do that with the red pillows!!!

I bought two of those laundry bags. I didn't want my host to think I was stealing so I told him I was going to do that. The next morning, I had two brand new bags still in plastic waiting for me.

I don't think DCL will have the exact item that everyone likes for instance the pillows. They want the "magic" to stay with the ship. I think they will however come up with something similar.

My last 2 cruises I had no clock beacause some one had stolen them from the room, you can buy them from the gift shop so not sure that would work either.

I took one of them by accident on the magic in october, I was mortified, dh was looking for a bag the last day, I told him to use the laundry bag, When I got home I said "whats this?" he said its the laundry bag, you told me to use it:scared1::scared1::scared1:
I thought it was the old plastic type, I swear......... If I told him to jump of a bridge he would do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a feeling that with all of the items "walking" off the ship, there won't be any of these special little things by the time I cruise the Dream in late September. Disney will get tired of replacing the knives and the cute red pillows, and the plates that I've seen on eBay, too. :sad2:

What I do find disturbing is the amount of things stolen by guests - now that is really what hurts the company. People taking more toiletries than they need and taking them home, people taking menus from the eateries, people taking towels etc. I know that for a while the original ships were replacing around 100 towels a month, each, due to them disappearing. I have also heard that the Dream is having problems with thefts - pillows, plates and surprisingly - the Mid-ship Detective Agency cards!

I had a recent experience of this at the Disneyland Hotel in California. A friend and I each booked refurbished rooms on DVC points--we each went to our respective rooms, and then when my friend came to pick me up she said--"where is your other pillow?" The rooms with two queen beds have blue pillows on each--one that says "A Dream is a Wish" and the other "Your Heart Makes" She had both pillows in her room--the pillow that said "A Dream is a Wish" was missing from my room! I immediately called downstairs to report it and hope that they would charge the prior guest for it--but they probably won't.

I am also appalled the number of times I go into a DVC villa and things are "missing."

I don't think offering the items for sale will have any effect. People have such a sense of entitlement that if they want something, they're just going to steal it, not pay for it. Disney does just need to start charging people I suppose, which is ridiculous that it has to come to that.

I would rather they charged who ever takes the stuff because ultimatly we are ALL being charged for it.
