This is DH. My wife (kbkids) says you guys can help with anything so I'm gonna test ya out. About a month ago I injured my left foot attempting a backflip (I really can do one and have for many years---honest) from the diving board. It pretty much felt like I had folded my foot against my shin. Not pleasant at all. Went to my family doc who x-ray'd and was talking to me more like I had sprained my ankle. He said in two weeks I should be close to 80%. Well----ain't there yet. More like 40%. Went to an ortho doc last week who said I had torn my calf and to give it another month. Well, a "calf-squeeze" or Thompson test as it is called is "positive", as in no downward movement of my foot. This is supposed to mean that your achilles tendon is ruptured. I also can not even begin to make my foot rise as if standing on my toes which is also a bad sign and finally, I have a noticeable dip or depression about two inches above my heel. The rear part of my ankle on both sides is still where the swelling shows most at the end of the day and my achilles around the area of the heel is still very sensitive. I'm a pretty quick healer but this really doesn't feel right at all. Any of you have anything like happen before? I'm thinking right now I need to see another doc'. Thanks bunches!

I would seek a second opinion from an orthopedic (preferrably one that specializes in tendon/ligaments).

My youngest DD has had achilles issues for over a year. She is only 10!! Plays soccer and if not wrapped properly, irritates it. She rests, ices as much as possible. Next course of action is cortisone shots!!!

Good luck.............maybe you should request an MRI since it is not healing properly (or fast enough!!).

Be careful of cortisone shots, they only mask the pain, real bad idea, professional athletes take these shots alot, only to cause more problems after their playin days are over.

To the OP, go to an Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in Sports, that should solve the problem.

You may also want to post this on the WISH board, specifically the Events Thread. Alof of those folks do endurance events and are training for the Half and full Marathon at Disney. I know a few have had issues w/ the Achilles Tendon and maybe able to give you some advice as well.

I have run Marathons, Half Marathons, etc ...

My advice will suffice, I promise ...

Exactly what Select1 said!

It sounds like you "over pronated" your foot and tore your Achilles tendon. You need to see a sports doctor or an orthopedic surgeon. You will probably need an MRI to correctly diagnose the injury. Then it's either physical therapy or surgery.

I injured my Achilles Tendon years ago by stepping off of a curb "funny". I have ongoing tendonitis because I didn't get it treated properly. Save yourself a lot of time and pain and see the correct specialist.
