accuracy of crowd calendars

Oh my goodness! I just checked out the aforementioned tplans Crowd Level Chart and it could not be any more opposite than the info I got from Tour Guide Mike, which incidentally, I planned my entire trip around.

I am feeling REALLY nauseous right now. How could the best park/worst park days vary so greatly between the two? I just can't wrap my head around that.

Welp....I'm going with my TGM! All our ADRs, etc., etc. are based on the TGM info. so I'm hoping it's more accurate. This is our very 1st Disney vacation, and I really thought I came up with a good plan, but now I'm second guessing everything!!!

Can anyone offer reassurance that all be will right in my TGM world???

My 2 cents...it is really petty that a disney website that is a valuable resource is not allowed here. I am surprised you are allowed to type the words "Unofficial Guide" here. Isn't that also competition for the forum sponsor

Agreed...which is why I refuse to patronize TGM...along with his questionable customer service. All my business happily goes to Unofficial Guide.

Well, the board has to cover its costs somehow, and it's not strange that a sponsor would want exclusivity. If the board's members covered all of its costs, then it wouldn't be an issue. But the bills have to be paid one way or another.

I don't know much about TGM but I know a "lot" about the "other site".

I tend to stick with research- tested and true data. The "other site" uses hotel capacity numbers to guage their crowd callendars so if hotel bookings are up, crowd numbers are increased. I know they check fairly consistently and update as necessary.

I know that the "other site" uses several pieces of information to compile their best/worst days- including thousands of reader surveys that say that x% of people go to y park on any given day of the week the most. It says straight out how they came to their conclusions. I don't know if TGM does that or not (using research to come to a logical conclusion).

Just my $.02. There are plenty of people who are happy with TGM. And there are many devout "other" followers!

Has anyone been to MK on a Saturday when you used TPlans advice?



P.S. We arrive on the Friday before SSW and the last weekend of the F&W at Epcot so I can kind of see why they recommend it but just wondering if anyone else has done it.

Yes!! We did in 2006, and will never do it again. It was I think a 4 or 5 at the time and recommended, we went on a Saturday and it was packed to the gills. We are here right now and just had this discussion yesterday morning when we were deciding what to do for the day. We decided to go resort hopping yesterday instead, even though MK was the recommended park.

I can say though, most other days/parks, the crowd level indicator was accurate. Saturday was the only day we had trouble with in the past. We will probably go Monday and take our chances.

I have checked the t.plans dot com calendar just today and many of our park days have higher crowd predictions than they did a few months ago. Of course this creates a panic for me, and I'm wondering how accurate crowd calendars are.

Also, does tour guide mike have a crowd calendar? Is it fairly accurate? I'm thinking of getting tgm to help me plan details.

You're going in early December, right? There have been a ton of posts expressing surprise at the occupancy rate for that timeframe and the lack of available rooms. Perhaps TG dot com has revised their predictions in light of this.

Also, Mousefest seems to be growing exponentially, and I think it is getting big enough to have some impact on crowd conditions and hotel occupancy - the 2006 wrap up mentions a single meet with 2000 people. Not as big as Pop Warner (9000 kids + families, coaches & chaperones), but getting big enough to have some impact I think, especially if you happen to be in the park that is scheduled for a given day!
