Please, any ACCOUNTANTS out there, have you heard of federal returns taking longer than usual to process this year? I filed electronically and have been waiting for 7 weeks and no refund yet.

Thanks for any input!! :)

Probably your best option is to check on your refund via the IRS website. Go to http://www.irs.gov and click on the link in the right hand corner that says "Where's My Refund". It will ask you three questions about your tax return, so you may need to have it handy in order to get the information you want.

Hope this helps!

I am not an accountant, but I filed my return electronically on April 1st and have already received my refund,so I don't think it would be much of a backlog. I do not have a simple return, mew have a rental property, itemize, etc.

That's what I've been doing - still being processed, it says.

Accountants - any of your clients in this situation?

You may want to call the IRS and inquire. If the IRS has you account marked for potential fraud the refund could be delayed.

I had to amend my return this year. I didn't realize you have to mail in the amended return. The IRS received my paper return on March 6 and I had a paper check on April 9.

My original return took less than 2 weeks (i filed before they started accepting them).

Good luck, hope you get it soon!

I agree. I worked in public accounting for 11 years and never saw an e-filing that took over 3 weeks to be accepted. Not saying there weren't any out there; just that I wasn't exposed to any personally.

I filed my own taxes this year and received my refund electronically one week after I filed in early March. With this amount of delay I would concur that your best bet is to call the IRS. Just get a good book or something before you call - the wait times this time of year can be horrendous! Good luck!

Well, I think I'll just wait for them to come to me. ;) I hate being on hold.

It's weird, we received our state refund (which is the most important to me anyway, since it is the most $$) in a mere 10 days.

My account tells me it is normal for someone in our complicated situation to wait this long, so no worries.

Thanks for your helpful replies.

I mailed my return in....not e-filed....and my refund was deposited in my bank account 4 weeks later.

I am a tax accountant. The IRS has informed us that returns should be processed within 21 days of January 31st (the first date they began accepting electronic filing). If you have not received your refund yet, do call. However, expect busy lines and being placed on hold for quite some time at this time of year. Sorry for your troubles. On a side note, did you receive and Earned Income Tax Credit? Returns with EIC are more heavily audited and delays can result.

No, I don't get the EIC. Thanks for your response. I don't plan on calling. I'm just going to wait. :)

Okay, finally approved. :)

Your tax refund is scheduled to be sent to your bank by April 16, 2014.

If your refund is not credited to your account by April 21, 2014, check with your bank to see if it has been received.
