Accidental Solo Trip

A couple of months ago, my long time SO broke off our engagement... two weeks before we were supposed to get married. We tried to stay together and "make it work", but it just didn't.

In the mean time, we had booked a Disney Trip by renting DVC from a friend of mine. I didn't want to burden her with messing up her points, so I kept the reservation (since I paid for it).

I have family members that are trying to go with me, but I'm afraid that they won't be able to go. I'm going to go either way. But I'm not afraid to say that I AM afraid of this trip by myself. Disney was one of our best vacations together, and since all of this is recent and our trip is in January, I don't know how this will go.

So, if this turns into an Accidental Solo Trip... HELP! :confused3 I don't know the first thing about doing this alone. It's too general or broad to ask for "tips" but maybe someone can give me a jump-off point? Any advice would be very welcome :)

I meean disney tickets are transferable  soo if you want a disney buddy to hang out with I'm free. just sayin' ;)

As for solo trips I'm not sure how it differentiates much from group trips other than less fighting about the rides to go on.

Magic Kingdom is the traditional starting point :)

Hahahaha, Well I'll be there in January if you want to meet up!! :wave2:

Obviously it's sad news and so far in my experience it is very difficult alone, so try to go in with an open mind, forget your troubles and lose yourself or find yourself. Go for drinks outside the split lanes bowling in downtown disney and sit at the bar...good place to chat to people the bar staff were chatting to me lots then after a few the guy next to me did too, he was also a single guy and obviously wanted to join in.

You really need to not fall into the trap of staying in your hotel and hide from everyone...go to pool sunbath, don't hide show yourself open as often as you can and be proud that is is an experience not a hinder and you,ll come out much more positive and know more about you. You can go watch a film at cinema, listen to some jazz by the bars at downtown disney band I listened to were really good. Try and make a bucket list of things uv never done before will help give a plan and ensure you build new experiences.

Good luck ull love it.

Sorry for your break-up-you deserve an awesome time, and you can have it, whether you go with family/friends or alone.

Solo Tips-
Think about what you want to do-what is important to you and then make that the focus of your trip. The parks, the pools, the restaurants, room service, spa hopping, shopping-it is your pick.

Plan ahead-you still need to make reservations if you want your favorite places. Do not make the mistake of thinking that it is easier for a solo to get a table. Disney is geared for families-I have had an easier time finding a table for 8 last minute, than a table for 1.

Be Flexible-if you are not having fun, change what you are doing or how you are doing it. That is the benefit of solo travel-you only have to please yourself

Have fun!

Sorry about the breakup, especially given the circumstances. This trip could be a really good thing, so its great that you're still going.

I'm in agreement with what everyone else has said. If you have any specific apprehensions, feel free to post them here! I'm sure that, collectively, the people on this board will have a useful answer to any question/hesitation that you might have.

I don't know if you enjoy planning or being more spontaneous, but one thing that could help is if you start writing down the things you want to do each day. Where you want to visit, what foods you'd like to enjoy, etc.. If you enjoy sit-down restaurants, you can start making reservations as soon as the window opens which can activate some of the excitement/anticipation.

I am planning to go again this fall and I'm doing a few minutes of research every day on where to eat and messing around with the reservation system to find those tables.
