Accident May 18th At Lights, Motors, Action

My sister, DD and I went to MGM today. My sister hadn't seen the stunt show, so we decided to watch. It was almost at the end of the show. The good guy on the motorcycle went up the ramp to do a jump. When he hit the second ramp, it looked like he clipped the edge. He went head over heels and hit is head/neck on the ramp. He wasn't moving.

One of the bad guys on another cycle came over after and ended up falling in an attempt to miss the first guy. He seemed okay. He got up and ran to the first guy. People came running from everywhere.

They came over the speakers and said to do emergency evacuation procedures. The CMs started telling the audience to exit the stadium.

They brought out a tent like thing and placed it over the stunt guy that was down. Then, they took big paper things and wrapped them around the tent poles so that the audience couldn't see what was happening.

I hope the stunt guy is okay. He came down very hard on his neck. Very scary. Those guys really earn their pay.
There was a post about an accident like this several weeks ago, didn't anyone find out how the stunt guy is doing???

Nothing was ever announced locally. If the stuntman had been badly injured, I think we'd have heard.

I suspect that HIPAA would prevent revealing any information about someone's private medical information.

We were at the same show...it was absolutely incredible how many people just sat there and watched, after being told to leave the theater...almost like they thought they were going to see something more. My dd, almost 13, was horrified...made us promise to never go to LMA again. We do have photos of the rider just after he went down. I did do a search when we got home but couldn't find anything here.
It looks like he may have just suffered a broken leg, as posted in one of the previous links. I hope so. There was no 'scuttlebut' around the parks that day or a day or so after. I figured that 'no news was good news' in this case.

I do hope the guy is ok.

But I'll be honest with you; if he did actually lose his life, I wouldn't be all too sad for him. Now I bet you're thinking "that's a pretty cold hearted thing to say". No, not really. All stunt drivers, race car drivers, etc put their lives on the line each and every time they go out and do their thing. And if I were one of them, I'd be honored to die doing something I loved.

Just my 0.02.

Hi Feralpeg,

It occurs to me that there is a bit of confusion as to WHEN this accident happened (we were also at WDW on 5/18 this year).
But from the TITLE that's still on this thread, it appears that the accident might have just happened "today" (whatever the day IS when the thread gets a new response).

Might it be possible for you to go back to your OP and edit the title to say, for instance, "Accident May 18th At Lights, Motors, Action"?

(Just to save extra "alarm" from new readers.)

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but I have to say that is pretty coldhearted. Yes, these drivers realize the dangers. As do police officers, firefighters, soldiers etc. They all know the risks involoved in the careers they have chosen, but....to die while 'performing' these duties is still sad. I can only imagine the pain/grief their families have to endure. The fact that the loved one died while 'doing what they loved' surely wouldn't lessen the pain. I wonder if any one of those people (police, firefighter, stunt driver, race car driver) would do their job on a day that they realized they would die or be injured. And please, I am in no way saying that stunt drivers are the same as police officers!!! But, they both chose their particular professions.

He is okay! I know someone who works at MGM and they told me his is fine!

Yes, thank you! Whether it is true or not! :lmao:

This thread is from a while ago if I remember correctly.

Yes, it is...the accident was on May 18 if I remember correctly. I'm glad I found it because I was there and have been wondering how the driver was. I can only assume that when someone reported that he had only (and I use that term loosely since a broken leg is no small deal!!) a broken leg, I have to think it's true or we would have heard otherwise. Too many people here with connections at WDW or live in the immediate area to not have heard.

I updated the thread titile. I'm surprised that this thread keeps coming back to the top.

Thanks.

It may stir up a little less "anguish" with that revised title.

I wish that poor man the best of luck. all my prayers. not to spoil the moment, but something like this happened at Fantasmic! a while ago. in the beginning (not even 5 min. into the show) mickey jumped up and landed hard. He wasn't moving and we had to leave the stadium. at the time, i was just mad we didn't get a refund because we payed for the package, but now i feel bad for the person in the mouse. i hope he is fine (this happened a few yrs ago, so he is probably okay... i hope)
