We have a family member that is joining us on our trip. She will not do elevators. I know from past experience with my aunt that a lot of hotels have locked stairs going up which usually means security has to unlock stairs everytime. We would like to stay at either the GC or DLH but wanted to check to see if anyone knows for sure if the stairs are easily accessible? She did call the hotels but got a different answer when she called each time. :(

GCH has a beautiful pubic stairs from near the main entrance to the 2nd floor, which is always available (there are no doors).
The "emergency" stairs at the norht-east corner of GCH is used by a few guests as a shortcut to the DTD (and DL), but the door on the ground floor is exit only.
Other stairs at GCH which exit within the hotel are likely unlocked, but I cannot 100% confirm.

There are also 15 ground floor rooms, all are in the south end of GCH (added along with the VGC).

You might want to request a ground or 2nd floor room at the GCH, this way your aunt can avoid using "emergency" stairs.
Avoid the rooms in the wing above Napa Rose and Whitewater Snacks, since the 2nd floor in that area does not connect to the main lobby stairs.

At dlh, there are ground floor rooms in the dream tower or the tower closest to the hat, and in Bonita, or closest towards the parking lot, I knew you can go down in stairs in both these towers, but not sure if you can go up since we did not try it, I would assume you can. But like last poster who stated the grand, you can ask for a ground floor for medical reasons, a fear of elevators and they should be able to give you one. I am not sure there are any ground floor rooms in the magic tower, and I am positive there are no ground floor rooms at the paradise pier..

There are no ground floor rooms in the DLH towers. The ground floor rooms are conference rooms. The stairwell doors do not open to hotel floors. (ie You can go down, but not up...)

We've stayed on the second floor in a room with a daybed at the GCH. The stairs near the elevator and lobby were easy to use.
