all the lower cost accessible rooms for a last-minute cruise we would like to take have been reserved. thinking of having my daughter park my ecv in the outside designated spot and wondering if there are places onboard like maybe the gym (there is a gym, isn't there?) where I can safely shower. anyone have any info that could help us make a decision. there are some higher-priced accessible rooms still available, but i'd like to avoid the extra charge. talking about 3 days on Disney dream. I hear there is an accessible shower on castaway cay.

At least on the Fantasy the gym/spa showers have zero entry and are nice. I showered there several times. Im not sure if they're wide enough to be "accessible" but you don't have to step in/out.

I can speak to the Fantasy as well. One of the stalls is designed as accessible, and I believe I saw a foldable seat in there the one time glanced in.

Is this basically asking where can you shower if you are not staying in a cabin? I'm confused. Stowaway?

When I read her post I took it to mean there were no accessible cabins left and it was implied that she would book a regular cabin but would need to use an accessible shower elsewhere because the one in the room wouldn't work for her. I think it's a bit of a reach to suggest a stowaway situation.

I say EVs in certain areas by the elevators on certain floors, as well as strollers. Not sure which floors or which elevators but I have seen those areas on the ship. Not sure how convenient that would be.

The OP needs an handicap accessible room. One isn't available in the room category he wants to book, only in higher cost categories. He is asking if there is a shower that would be accessible for someone with limited mobility if he were to book a stateroom that is not accessible.

OP, have you called DCL to ask about accessible rooms or are you just going off what is available on the website? If there is someone booked into an accessible room that does not need those features, they might be able to move that person to a non-accessible room and make the accessible one available to you since you need those features. You mention this is a last minute cruise. They might have assigned some people who booked GTY cabins to an accessible cabin and can move those cruisers to open something up for you.

thanks everyone. the scooter I own is about 2 inches too wide to fit through a regular cabin door, but I think I might be able to rent a narrower one from a store near me, or even buy a used one for about the same extra cost as the more expensive accessible rooms still available (resale values on scooters is nowhere near the original purchase price).

also, someone on the disabilities board said that I might be able to get a transfer bench or chair for the bathroom to make it safer for me. i'm going to confirm all that on the phone with Disney tomorrow and then hopefully book the lowest price room.

thank you all so much for your help.

Very Happy Ending!

Bought a used scooter tonight for only $200, 20.5" wide so will fit through any cabin door. But better yet, we booked an accessible room tonight, too!!! It's in the pricier room category, but my sweet DH told me I should splurge and get what I needed.

I can't wait to really dive into the disboards now and see everyone's DCL tips, comments and trip reports. I am so excited!
YAY on so many levels! :flower1:
