Just made out first reservation at SSR for an accessable room . As DS can't get around thought it would be nice to try and get an upper floor so he can see (anything) but they say all handicaped/disabled rooms are on the ground floor. Suppose it is for fire regulations . just disappointed for DS>

They do have HA Optional rooms on higher levels. Not sure if this would accomodate your DS, but we stayed in one at SSR in June.

It was in the Springs on the second floor and was a studio lockoff unit. It was HA Optional as the bed was higher and firmer, the patio door swung outward (French Doors) instead of sliding and the light switches were lower. It wasnt a fully modified unit, as it did have a tub with rails. The location was great, right across from the Main Pool and checkin with a view of the main street and Theater. (it was an end unit).

We only stayed there 1 night (the bed was a too firm for my liking), but if the bed had been a little softer, we would have stayed because of the great location and patio.

One nice thing about SSR, is the vegetation is not overgrown, and they really did try to provide nice views as much as possible for the majority of their units.

The unit we moved to was on the first floor and we had a great view of DTD and a nicely scaped courtyard right outside our patio that we really enjoyed. If you are not in the Congress Park section, most first floor units will have views of water or golf course when that section is completed.

the one we saw when we toured had a king sized bed in the master along with a bath and roll-in shower, living room with pull down and another bedroom with two queen beds and sep. bathroom. the kitchen had low worktops etc.

would have been nice to get him higher up with some sort of a view. maybe it is the ones that have some access eg. grab handles etc that are on the upper floor.

please post if you have had the units with roll-in shower rooms on an upper floor at SSR :)

Sorry i can't help with your question, instead I have a question for you. I have called 5 times to get a measurement on the opening to the roll in shower. We will be using an adult size shower chair for DS when we go in december. Do you remember how the shower was set up. was it completely open with a shower curtain or was it a shower with a bigger opening. Hope i'm explaining my correctly. Thanks, Susan

Understand totally :) We tried with the wheelchair when we did the tour :) reckoned if the wheelchair fitted then the shower chair would . Our son's wheelchair is an 18" but including the extra bits the total width is 23" and he fitted in the shower no bother at all. There wasn't hundreds of room but more than adequate. Having said that it depends on whether your son can shower himself. My son needs help so from us so we need a bit more room and there was still enough room for that.

There was no shower curtain or shower door but the main shower part was like a wet floor area. It was off the main master bedroom .

If you need any more info please feel free to ask of PM me.

Ali, Thanks for the info. Our son also reguires full care and help showering. He is an adult so adult size everything(LOL). We have a special tub at home and don't use a shower(he doesn't tolerate the spray well). So I had to order a shower chair and I ordered one that has the smaller tires front and back, hoping this will work well. Thanks Susan

we found this great guy this year from discount mobility. nothing seems a problem to rent. we are renting a shower chair off him for next july so fingers crossed.

let me know how you get on and let me know if you don't mind any tips you pick up when you are there or anything you think would help us to. :wave2:

Ali, I will be more than happy to post how the trip went. This will be our first trip in a H/A villa. I'm hoping to have my laptop repaired and then I can post daily and possibly answer questions at that time. Susan
