Acapulco Information

Just out of curiosity, do you need to get a new FM-T everytime you disembark in Mexico or just one card for all stops?

Have you been to SuCasa for dinner?

Actually yes every night, :rotfl2: (Su casa translated means your home)

I absolutely love this restaurant, huge yummy Margaritas, great food and very good service. Ask for Miguel, he is my regular waiter and he always pampers us and sends us freebies.

I strongly recommend the Patron shrimp appetizer and the grilled red snapped "A la Talla" actually the entire menu is good. But, you gotta rty the shrimp, mouth watering delicious....Think I'll go back tomrrow night, thanks for the reminder

Hi Roberto,

Thank you for bringing this thread to life again! It is so nice to hear from you again. Can't wait to spend another day in Acapulco, only wish we had more time at your port.

Looking forward to your wealth of information in the coming months!

I will be counting the days till the Magic is back in port with us again. Let me try to convince my boss to fork out for welcome festivities, although I want to try something different, maybe a "Chile frito" band, it's like a low low budget mariachi that many locals hire for their parties and gathering, even in funeral processions and they are a hoot, it¿s basically a guy with a drum, a guy with an old sax and a guy in a trumpet and they mae a lot of noise. Fun fun for every one.

Only if you disembark in Mexico would you have to fill out a FMT form, otherwise, no worries. The ship arranges a blanket clearance for all guests and crew.

We Love this resturant! We go a couple of times every time we go to Aca. I wish we were going to be there that night.

Thank you for your information, I used your posts in 2005, and have been to Acapulco, twice and will go again in 2008.

My question is about these so called Tourist guides, wherever else I go a firm NO will stop them, but last time a guy just stuck with us everywhere we went, we said NO,NO,NO,NO, but he wouldn't go, we wanted to go to the Market not far from the ship, the one thats in hexagonal huts, and he stayed behind and tried to direct us to stalls, I presume who are family, or he gets commission.

I want to go it alone again in 2008, apart from a very firm no, without being rude is there anything else I can do to stop them following?

Do you know any boat companies that take you out to see the cliff divers?
Is the water and ice at the restuarant at the cliff divers purified? Thanks!

Aloha Roberto,

We enjoyed your photos of your home town!:thumbsup2

We will be visiting Acapulco in May 2008 aboard the Disney Magic. Please recommend cultural activities (Not necessarily tourist activities), restaurants with great regional food, and out-door activities. With only a half-day we will not have much time to do much and we would like to have a wonderful day in your town.

Thank you

unfortunately there is no sure fire way to get rid of these people, just stand your ground and say "No Gracias" or plain out ignore them I know it sounds harsh, but they will be very insistant. I can help you by walking you through another exit in the port, this avoiding a tojn of these guys. Look for me on the pier and I will be more than happpy to escort you from the phirana guides.

I only know one company but they are usually booked up; you have an easy option. Go to the Malecon, about, 2 blocks to the west from the cruise terminal and you can negotiate with the owners of the boats.

And yes, the water and the ice are purified. I get easily sick, so I know for sure.

The fort of San Diego is right across the street, a 16 century fort made into a museum, the a few feet away you have the mask museum. In the Zocalo (main square) you will find the cathedral, I strongly recommend the cliff divers, and the home of Dolores Olmedo (Diego Ruivera Murals) all very near from each other.

There is a new restaurant in town with regional menu, the name "Jaguar" I want to try it this week and get back to you.

Thank you so much for all of the very interesting articles you have made available. As the Magic will be in port from about 6.30 until 1.p.m. on the 22nd August is there a web site or how do I find out information on the diving schedule please. Also wish to visit the Fort of San Diego and hope we can do both in the morning.
Thank you once again.

Yes it would be interesting to see what is open early in the morning when the Magic is in on the August repo.

Thats correct, since the Magic will have such a short stay in Acapulco; the ship arranged tours will have a private show (for ship arranged tours at 08:00 am) If you do not want to take a ship arranged tour, not to worry, you can take any taxi and ask to be taken to the divers and you can watch the show from La Perla restaurant for $14USD per person or from the lower observation platform managed by the divers union for $7USD per person (double the normal cost due to the "private show"
The Fort opens from 09:30 am till 06:30pm closed on Mondays, I am cofindet you will have plenty of time to do both and maybe visit a few intersting places close ot the divers, such as Casablance Hotel, Home of Dolores Olmedoi (Diego Rivera Murals), Zocalo, etc.

Thank you, can you put a 'clamp' on the Magic to make it stay longer?

I think we have a 'booking' at Panama that they do not want to miss!

In view of the early arrival and departure what would you recomend we do? Would the local market open early if they know we are in?

Hmmmm don't give me ideas, last time I woke up arrested in Panama for partying too much. LOL (note, that the party started in Acapulco)

I'll check with the brass and see what say them.
