Absolutely unacceptable

Why i think e-mail notification wouldn't be effective: Depending on the site one chooses to believe, approximately 30%-39% of US households don't have Internet access.

LOL, do you believe that people paying to stay at Poly, GF and CR fall under that 30 - 39%.

If I was forced to guess, I would say that's highly unlikely.

I do not know what you can see from Boardwalk but definitely not an iconic park and castle. MK is like ocean when you go to Hawaii, you either have The view or you don't.

I could only find a solid wall view, but these can give an idea. Unfortunately, some of the views of World Showcase have family members in them...

OK - now this is just coming across as snarky. I don't know if that's your intent, but that's how it's coming across.
I'm sincerely sorry. My intention, and my thought process when writing, wasn't snark in any way.

That's as far as I've read in your response; I felt the knee to apologize before going any further (so if you already addressed what I'm about to say - I'm sorry again!).
An e-mail distribution list wouldn't be effective because
even if those numbers (39%) are high, you still have a large minority of potentially affected guests who wouldn't be contacted
an unknown but existing number of guests with internet/e-mail access don't check it, don't check it regularly, or don't know what e-mail address they have on file with WDW
the scope of the interference (part-time daily transportation outage vs incomplete room construction) is apparently less compelling overall from Disney's perspective to requiring advance notification: it's not like the affected guests won't have rooms.

I'm not being snarky or sarcastic, or expecting anyone to change their minds. It just seems the business determined it's not cost-effective to notify everyone staying at the three resorts, and in my opinion part of ghat reason is that a large percentage would have had to be contacted by phone.

It's only cost effective for Disney to send out promotions..via emails. snail mail, etc... :rolleyes1 ;)

Interesting.
If you think that the (let's use 35%, for convenience) of US households without Internet access are in that position for purely economic reasons - as it appears, based on the three resorts you cite - it sounds like you're being mistakenly classist or elitist or both.

Surely you're not being judgmental?

Did you read my whole response? Especially the section about having to contact all the guests without e-mail, by phone? Angel Ariel is right - a distribution list is easy.

A distribution list can't make phone calls. At least not yet.

And, it's not profitable...for Disney.

So did OP call and complain? I understand her side completely. I don't know why some posters assume she is "outraged" or "angry". She is just expressing disappointment. I am interested in a monorail resort because of our 2 small children, so I would be interested in knowing what Disney said.

We leave for our trip on Friday and it was only posted yesterday that the Magic Kingdom monorails will not be operating between 11:30am and 6pm EVERY SINGLE DAY WE ARE THERE:headache:

So let me get this straight. I'm paying 300 dollars a night to ride the bus to MK? During crazy Spring Break crowds we all know how long the boat line will be to get back to the Poly. Why would Disney schedule this during such a busy time???:confused3

Where do I email my complaint?

This really sucks :sad2:. I would be so disappointed and frustrated. I hope that this doesn't ruin your trip and that you have a great time :goodvibes.

PS The OP has every right to be disappointed. I would be too. Some of these comments are rude. This forum is called the Disboards not the Snarkboards.

The OP's choice of words?

Absolutely: With no qualification, restriction, or limitation; totally.
Unacceptable: Not satisfactory or allowable: "unacceptable behavior".

We don't know what the OP did, except that she probably went to Walt Disney World as scheduled last Friday. If you're visiting or considering visiting in the next few weeks, probably your best option would be to call and find out if/how your visit would be affected.

Did the OP even reply after posting her initial rant, er, complaint?? (sorry, but the way she titled the thread is enough for me to characterize it as such) It would be very interesting, after all these pages, to hear if her vacation really was completely ruined by the afternoon outages.:confused3 Maybe she's afraid to come back and tell us.

And to the poster who thinks that any criticism is rude, well, these are public forums, and as long as they stay within the posting guidelines, posters can pretty much be as snarky as they want to be. You don't have to like it, you can even counter with your own views. But you can't tell them how to think.

And the first three letters are DIS.......:rolleyes1 People get DISsed around here all the time:laughing:

Could I ask your objection to a business being profitable to its stockholders?

A business must remain profitable or...it goes under. Same goes for customer satisfaction. Disney has admitted, they are targeting the infrequent and first time guests. They have little to no experience, so much easier to awe....and they will complain less. (closures, no monorail, fewer shows, reduced quality, etc.) It's cheaper (and easier) to "throw a bone" and not inform the guest in advance.

I was there when they started this daily process of closing down both monorails so they could work on construction at the GF..this affects the day guests as well as both monorails are shut down. I stopped staying on monorail resorts 2 years ago when the monorails seemed to get slower and slower. Then they started closing it earlier and bussing the guests back to the Poly, Contemporary and GF.
I was at an EPCOT deluxe when I came across the closures that are happening now. I was headed from MK to Poly for a lunch ADR. I had no idea this was planned and I was late..but no big deal, I made it there and they took me. I don't know anyone that was notified. I just know the monorail resorts aren't as convenient as they used to be due to the erratic monorails.
Disney isn't always the best planned company.
I was there last year when a bus caught fire (the engine) at the MK bus stops. They evacuated all the guests in the bus area, cattling them onto the ferry and monorail. Upon arriving at the TTC, it was a mess, noone that worked there knew what to do...the "head lady" was making it up as she went along, grouping guests by resorts. I laughed because you would think in today's world, they would be prepared for anything.
I know that was off topic but when you go to Disney you have to go with the flow. Yes they probably knew they would have to close the monorail during that time for alot of March. It was on the local news as well.
But you are at Disney...there are worse places to be! Don't stay on the monorail line if you are worried. Switch resorts. Maybe if bookings were down on the monorail resorts, Disney would take notice...or then, maybe not...

Wow, I'm really shocked at the posters who are saying the OP is ranting, should just suck it up, and adjust her schedule accordingly! I would be just as furious. A Disney trip is a huge investment of time and money, and someone shelling out $300/night MINIMUM for a deluxe resort is doing it for the premium location/transportation and service to make the most of the trip. We are at Boardwalk now paying a lot for room - probably double the cost of a similar quality offsite room. If I got here and the boats to DS and Epcot weren't running half the day, I would go through the roof! I mean, who thinks the Poly could get by with its outrageous rates without the monorail?

Maintenance is necessary - but MUST be communicated in advance. Disney should be offering all affected guests room credits, fastpasses or some other form of compensation for the inconvenience.

It isn't that adequate transportation isn't available for part of the day, it's that a particular mode of transportation isn't available part of the day. This means quite a bit to some and not much to others--hence the debate.

The monorails are being closed, due to construction at the Grand Floridian.

Would you still go through the roof if Disney provided you an alternate, if lesser, form of transportation during the hours the boats were unavailable?

The primary purpose of this temporary change is for construction of the Grand Floridian DVC property - not maintenance. Sure, necessary maintenance will be done, but the MK monorail loop is being closed in case a multi-ton steel beam falls, or the crane topples, or something.

As for advance notice, check out this http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=44259923&postcount=481 really informative thread on construction permits, timing, authorization by creativeamanda from a few pages back. It helps explain why there's often not a lot of advance notice TO give.
