Absolutely unacceptable

If you're complaining to try and get some compensation then that is just sad.

I disagree. OP is paying a premium rate to stay at a hotel on the monorail line. If they are unable to provide the feature that the premium rate is based on then compensation is most definitely something OP should request.

Now...if it was that the monorail was broken down for a few hours on one day of her stay....yeah, that's probably sad that you'd want to be compensated for every little unforeseen glitch. But everyday of their stay will be affected.

I do agree with your statement that complaining isn't going to change things, but I don't think OP was hoping that if she complained that they'd reschedule the work for another week, lol.....that would be sad for someone to think they were that important, lol.

Good post, and backed up with quotes from actual experiences no less. :thumbsup2

I agree! I was really worried about it affecting our transportation from parks to BLT and to dnner ressies, but it did not hinder us at all! We got so busy at the parks (and we still park hopped) I forgot they were even down.

Believe me, I LOVE having the monorails readily available and it was definitely a concern before we left on our trip. But, I get so mad at myself when I worry for no reason! It was an amazing trip!

I understand some people being upset because these monorail resorts are premium price and the convenience factor of the monorail system is totally amazing! But to the OP, maybe try to switch to one of the Epcot resort (they rock, too!!!) as others have suggested. :)

However, since monorail is not exactly MK resorts property, Disney does not really need to notify you in advance just like it does not need to notify you on closed rides.
I disagree because the Resort Monorail is apart of the Contemporary/Polynesian/Grand Floridian since it actually stops at those resorts, so guests can get on or get off.

The only Monorails that are no Magic Kingdom Resort property is the Magic Kingdom Express Monorail and the Epcot Monorail.

Not looking to "stir the honey pot" but $300 per night is actually a pretty decent price for the Poly in March! Rack rates for March are listed as $465-$585 for Garden View ($615-780 for Magic Kingdom view).

How much lower price do you expect to get from Disney? After reading some of these posts, sounds like a bunch of kindergartners having temper tantrums :lmao:

That is how you see it. I see it as Disney free transportation available to everyone, nothing more. I would feel differently if it was pool in question, actual part of resort, but transportation really not a part of any resort, it is part of Disney resort.
BTW, when they were rebuilding CBRs pool, they never offered discounts and we are talking about main pool with a slide. That was the year I tried POP.

Continuing with the world peace theme--I agree with you.

Even though Disney transportation is free to everyone the majority of guests who use the Resort Monorail are the ones staying at the Contemporary & Bay Lake Tower/Polynesian/Grand Floridian. So in my opinion that's what makes the Resort Monorail apart of those locations because the Monorail is unique to those locations.

Barring the posters who are in Bob's camp - who want the monorail, want it running all day and they will accept nothing else - it was still worth it to point out that Disney seems to be handling the outage (which was going to happen whether some guests found it unacceptable or not) without causing undue inconvenience to guests who used the alternative transportation.

I think most that are actually affected by this change are probably managing quite well and having a good time.

It is easier to criticize something in theory than in reality.

At this point in the life of the monorails at Disney, if a guest wants them running all day without disruption, I am afraid they are setting themselves up for disappointment in advance. They are simply too old.

Don't push it :teeth:
It took a LOT of effort on Bob's part to get me to understand - not necessarily agree with, but absolutely understand - his extremely valid concern over this change.

I appreciate this.

as someone who finally got to stay at a monorail resort right after they instituted the "no monorail" for emh rule, I can sympathize with anyone staying at one of these 3 resorts when there are extended monorail down times.

What you said got me thinking about something. During the hours each day when the Monorail's are not operating does anyone know if they are just parked at specifc stops until it's time to re-open or is WDW going to take that chance and work on them even more? The way I see it they could use this extra time to improve them a lot faster and not just 1 hour after the Magic Kingdom and Epcot have closed.

:confused3 I do not think majority matter in this case. It is not exclusive to resort guests, not even to ticket holders. I think Disney transportation is a separate department, not related to hotels at all. JMHO.

The monorail IS the only reason, we choose a Monorail Resort. There was a time, the MK view factored in, but not at $800+ X 2 rooms, per night.

I respectfully disagree. while ALL" Disney Resort" transportation is free to all (like say, someone who wanted to take a link bus to the TTC, and ride around on disney transportation all day.. unlike back in 1994, when we had to show our CBR ids. to get on the bus), those who book at poly, GF, or CR, do so (and pay the price) partially becasue the monorail actually stops AT the resort they are staying at.(as opposed to having to take a link bus or drive tot he TTC,)

our favorites are the moderate resorts. we find the buses very convenient. we stayed once at beach club.. now, if the walkway to epcot was blocked while we were there, we would not have been happy at all.

IMO, Disney transportation , while available to everyone, is a definite factor when choosing which resort to stay at on Disney property. esp.l when the monorail will stop and pick you up "right at your resort".
and numerous people have the same mindset, whether or not they even know about the "dis".

I think only CR provides The view, GF and Poly while provide view, castle is still pretty distant, I would never pay that much money just for that. At the same time I really do not like CRs airport like feel. Theme is pretty important to me but everyone is different.

Sigh... Just when I thought everything was getting straightened out... Magic Kingdom area resorts (or I like my designation: Seven Seas Lagoon resorts :)).

I'm quoting, the Poly MK view. It's our favorite resort of the three.

But, I've also stayed at Shades of Green. It's across from the Poly, so is it an MK resort? It's just not the same...no monorail upstairs.:confused3
