Absolute proof that Reams road existed prior to Disney & More

This is some fantastic research, and obviously a lot of work. Thanks for sharing it with us!

The section of Reams Road between Delmar and CR535 (Winter Garden-Vineland Rd), is slated for permanent closure starting Sept 13, 2011.

All back entrance traffic, turning right out of Center Rd, will now need to go through the new Lakeside Village Shopping Center.

Bay Lake, aka WDW, is the light pink at the bottom of the document.

Hi! I noticed you had a picture of discovery island, and were wondering about the building and land on there. My great-great-uncle used to own the island, and I believe that would be the house that was there. My grandmother spent her childhood summers there, and my great-grandmother still likes to tell us stories about their visits there, and show us pictures, too :goodvibes

Family legend is a little contradictory to the information that's out there today, but my uncle sold the island to a hunting club that he later found out didn't exist- it was Disney trying to buy the land without spending a fortune. He found the whole thing incredibly funny, apparently.

The story I heard was that it was owned by a hunting club when Walt bought it... maybe your family sold it to the club, the club used it for a time, then sold it to Walt? I don't doubt the secret part, though, as that's most of the WDW property was purchased.

Would love to hear more if you could share your story -- and photos if you have them.

I have no idea- that's where I always have a hard time. I don't wanna doubt what my Uncle Hugh said, but the documents also don't agree, lol. I also know that my uncle's name doesn't appear on most articles about the island. It's almost like he never owned it, but we know that he did.

I'll see if I can find the album the next time I go to my grandfather's house to get some pictures. I'm pretty sure I know where it is.

I'll also ask my great-grandmother about the island some more the next time I see her. She loves to tell stories about it.

Apologies for the lack of updates. I had to format my computer and forgot to backup a certain folder containing my work.

I will get back on the project soon and hopefully have some new information to share.

Also if anyone has any requests I will be more than happy to research them and post my results.

That's awesome! :thumbsup2

Subbing! Love reading this. My husband and I think this stuff is really cool. Any information or old images of the I-drive/Sand Lake/Convention Center area?
