?? about upgrading PHs to Ap

We just switched our Jan reservations from POR to GF with the AP rate. Now I need to buy an AP, but we already have PHs. I know I can upgrade an unused PH to an AP, but can I upgrade two unused 4-day PHs to 1 AP? The CM said yes, but that I have to do it at WDW. If I can do this, can I do it before I go? (We have 2 PHs to use because we cancelled an Oct trip due to a death in the family. The inlaws were supposed to go in Oct, but not to the new Jan trip.)

I am so excited to stay at the GF. This is most likely the last chance we will have to stay there because I am pregnant with our 4th baby and we will need more space and a kitchen after this.

Anyway, any AP info would be most appreciated!!

You have to upgrade at Guest Services. There's a great section at Mousesavers about this:

You have to do it at guest relations. They will not let you do it before you go.

I believe you also will only be able to apply one park hopper.

Check and double check the AP dates. Make sure if your using an unused PH that the exp date of the AP is 1 year from the date of your upgrading. Sometimes the system defaults to the date of the purchase of the ph and maybe even the printing of the ph and the CM's don't know how (or want) to to override it.

If your ph is partially used there is some type of 7 day rule so make sure its worth the price of the transfer if you have used a day or so. Sometimes the unused days are worth more than the upgrade value - again this is on a used vs unused PHP.

We upgraded an unused PHP last Feb and the CM issued an AP good until March of the same year - 6 weeks although I paid full price! Evidently even though I had purchased the pass in November at the disney store it was printed in March of 02 and the system defaulted to that original printing date. Be careful as the CM had to call 2 supervisors and really "tweak" the system to apply the value of the PH + my cc'd $ and get a true AP - good for a year. I got no discount mind you just the price of the PH and difference on my cc'd.

It was a LIFESAVER that I had the original receipt from the Disney Store as we decided soon after purchasing the PH we would upgrade. Take as much paper as you can and check and double check the AP's.

I hope my re-telling of the story isn't getting boring to anyone but I just want people to be more careful than I was. I could have walked away and been stuck on my next trip.
