?? about trading with Interval International

How do you start the process? do you call MS or II? and does anyone know if this is an easy process or will it be a pain in the butt? We love Disney, but after 5 trips in 2 years and one planned for 07 we were looking to go somewhere else. Maybe Key West, Hawaii, someplace not Disney World. Any problems, experiences, advice is welcome. Thanks in advace.

As you can see from my signature, we too have been to Disney many, many times, and thoroughly enjoyed each visit! Finally DH put his foot down and said he needed a break from Mickey, so the last two summers we went on cruises, which we also enjoyed very much. It opened our eyes to there being a world out there to vacation in besides Walt Disney World.

That being said, we just recently purchased a Marriott Time Share, (but I had to agree to Disney every other year or so, with other locations in the world in between) with our home resort being Marriott's Grande Vista Resort. I just went through the process of reserving, depositing and exchanging for our vacation next year. It was confusing, but I had alot of help from the people at TUG, a Marriott TS discussion forum similiar to Disboards.

I am assuming that you are already an owner, so the first thing you do is call Marriott and reserve a week in your season at your home resort. Try to either pick a week in your season that has a higher demand so it will give you more trading power OR pick a week in your season that you actually want to vacation. If you don't really want that week, then deposit it into II and try for an exchange into another resort or another season/week.

Which is your home resort? Some resorts and seasons have more trading power than others.

My home resort is SSR. Would Marroitt let me just reserve a week? Sorry but I really don't understand what Marroitt would have to do with DVC. I thought it was Interval International that DVC traded with for the World Passport Collection. Seems like I have alot to learn about this trading stuff.
Are you a DVC owner? We don't have seasons, we just have use years.

Just call MS and they can assist with your World Passport exchange. Be prepared to wait as many of these exchanges will require some flexibility regarding dates and resorts especially for the high demand places like Hawaii.

DVC members cannot call II directly since DVC holds the membership. All contact will be made thru MS.

Mariott and other timeshare owners will have their personal membership with the exchange company and may make their own arrangements- even online in some cases.

Doc has more faith in the MS exchange department than I do. They know what they do but I do not feel they are good at matching you with options that will fit your needs or knowing a lot about the exchange options themselves. My recommendation to you is you decide what locations and times you'd like to go. Then go online and look at the resorts in those areas. Once you have a starting list of resorts, try to find out more about them taking into account the various factors that might be important to you. Ask here, look at tripadvisors, ask on TUG or even join TUG so you can see the reviews and ratings. Once you do that and have narrowed the list somewhat, call DVC and ask if they have additional info that will help you like statements or complaints from owners. Once you've decided on a list, have them put in the info. Check it very carefully to make sure they have the right dates and resorts. I'd give them the resort codes plus name rather than name alone, it'll make it easier for them and less likely for a mistake to be made. Call back on a different day to verify and keep notes.

When looking at resorts, try to think what will be important to you. Here are a few examples. Some resorts in beach areas may not have a beach or even be close to one. In HI, many don't have AC. Some have extra fees like for AC or parking. Realize that you can usually only trade for 6 people for a 2 BR so if you need more, make sure you check out the resort prior. Remember that II defaults to an entire weekend. So if you say Sat, they assume Fri, Sat or Sun is fine. If that's not OK, you need to be very clear about it. Some resorts only check in on certain days so if you need a specific check in day, you may need to eliminate certain resorts. If a resort only has 2 BR units, you'll need to pay for a 2 BR even if you only need a 1 BR.

DVC members have no access to II directly at all. Even those of us that are II members, have to go through DVC for anything regarding DVC.

My mistake! I thought MS was a Marriott abbreviation without my glasses! I'm a Marriott owner and we also trade with II. We can call II directly or do everything on line.
DVC works differently. Good luck in trading!

That explains it. I was really confused. MS = Member Services
