I'm trying to set aside some time to take the DVC tour at SS next week. I really just want to look at the rooms and go over the paperwork. I've been reading these boards for a long while and am pretty comfortable with the other info (UY, banking , borrowing, etc.)

Will I be able to do this where it'll only take about an hour? I'm only on this trip for 4 days so I don't want to take too much time away from the parks.
I think I'm ready to take the plunge. :cool1:

I'm gonna call DVC tomorrow (called a couple of weeks ago before I went on different vacation. Asked for a specific guide, but he was not in.) Just want to kinda know the answer before I ask them the question.

Thanks!
Terri

The last time I had gone through a full tour, the sales center was still at OKW. If it is a similar presentation, I think an hour maybe pushing it just a little, I think I'd plan on an hour and a half to be safe...but, you may be done in an hour.

When we went it definitely took more than an hour, and that was with us pushing them to be quick. I would say allow 1.5 hr plus travel times. They did give us 12 fast passes good for any time in the next two days though, that really helped a lot!

I just did the ssr tour two weeks ago. It took appx. 2 hours, but I think if you let them know you have researched ahead of time, and are in a hurry, they could speed things along. Also, I recieved 12 fastpasses for the effort, which offset the time used significantly.

Good luck!

Denise

I would allow whatever time you need, and cut back on the theme park commando stuff if you have to. You're looking at a serious decision, and the tour will be your best opportunity to get questions answered from the source. There is no pressure of any kind on the tours, so relax and ask a lot of questions.

You will find the guides very well-informed about current pricing and financing -- all the ins and outs of a purchase direct from Disney. When they stray away from that - like speculating on where the next DVC resort is built - their accuracy is very suspect. They seem congenitally unable to say, "I don't know."

The guides will also not mention the resale market, and if you bring it up, they will try to dissuade you from considering it. Most of them don't know much about resale, only what they've been told to say to overcome objections to buying direct from them. So do your resale research somewhere else, like here.

Does anyone know if the tour is even necessary? I want to just sit down, check to see if there are BWV points available in my use year, and sign up for an add-on! (DVD can't talk to us due to state RE laws...)

Terri:

Be sure if you schedule the tour ahead of time, I think you will find them very accommodating. DVC will arrange to pick you up at any location on-property of your choice. After the tour they will also drop you off wherever you want.

For example, you could arrange to be picked up at your resort at 8am, allow 60-90 minutes for the tour, and then have them drop you off at the Magic Kingdom around 9:30-10am. Or if you normally take a mid-day break to stop back at your hotel, maybe schedule the tour for 3:30pm and then have them drop you off at a park or another resort in time for dinner. Yet another alternative might be to schedule the tour for 60-90 minutes before you want to spend some time at Downtown Disney. After the tour you could walk along the water to DTD.

Bottom line: Schedule it in advance and fit it into your schedule such that DVC's more direct transportation will work to your advantage. :)

Blue&Gold: No, you certainly don't have to go through the formal tour. Might not hurt to take a few minutes to tour the model rooms while you're in the neighborhood, though. :)

Honestly, I'm "afraid" of the tour... I'm pretty sure I just want to add 75-100 points at BWV to top off the contract we bought through resale. If I take the tour, I'll be tempted to go for 150 or more at SSR!

Once you're in the system, you can add-on at any resort in any increment. So, don't think they will force you to buy 150.

If you already own at BWV, there is some value in adding-on elsewhere--be it SSR, BCV or any other resort. Unless your intention is to only visit every 2-3 years, or you are certain you always want to book a single resort, you can use banking and borrowing to get the 11 month advantage at multiple resorts if you own at more than one.

Just food for thought... ;)

We're just now warming up to the idea of hitting more than one resort per visit. Also tempted to start "building" a SSR point block to take advantage of the longer lease time frame. Right when I think I'm committed one way or another, someone "leaks" a rumor of a Contemporary or Disneyland DVC... Now I just think I should be committed.

You really don't have to take the tour to add on. Just call your guide and it can all be done via phone, fax, and mail. That's how we did it. As for touring the resorts just to take a look at them, you can do that on your own in less time than you could accompanied by a guide.

Diane... Unfortunately, there are a number of states (Nebraska is one) that restrict DVD from marketing directly to their residents. We have to buy while physically in Florida or through the resale market.

Call your guide and leave a message advising him how many points you want to add on and where, and that you know that state laws may restrict him from returning your call at home. Tell him when you will be arriving at WDW and that you will call him to set up an appointment to do the paperwork, but hat you aren't interested in a "full tour"

Just for info...recently points have been available pretty quickly (often instantly) for just about all resorts. The only one I've seen any problem with is BCV and then only for certain use years. I don't think you'll have a problem with an add-on.

Good luck and have a great visit!

If you tour, make sure you're ready to buy or not buy.....

Once you tour, you have ONLY 3 days from the time your vacation ends to take advantage of any current incentives. So you must contact DVC by the end of that 3rd day and put down a deposit.

They will send you a contract and you have up to 60 more days to sign it and send it back. If you back out or don't sign, they'll cancel it and send yoour $ back.

I'll have my 12 y/o nephew with me. Will they let hime go on the tour also?
