Has anyone on these boards ever have to go to the ship doctor and what was your experience like? My kids just got over a virus last week and now have strep. I wen't to the Dr. yesterday and I have it, too! I've never had it before, and I feel miserable.
:( My dh woke up this morning with a sore throat and fever of 100.6.

I know it's better to have it now, but we are leaving in 2 weeks!! I have so much left to do!! I asked my MD for refills on antibiotics, which I will have filled to take with us, just in case.

On our first trip to WDW my 5 yo dd came down with chicken pox on our second day there! We tried to cut our trip short but they wouldn't let us on the plane with a contageous disease! We had to rent a car and drive home!!(to NY!)

Last year on a Carnival Cruise, my ds came down with fifth disease on the first day! It is a virus but is not contageous once the rash appears. Luckily he wasn't uncomfortable, but we had to keep him out of the sun! So he snorkelled w/ a t-shirt on. (and tons of sun screen)

So, you see my concern. I'm not paranoid or anything.
:) But we do have a track record!! Thanks for listening.

Sorry, no experience with the ships doctor. BUT, I just wanted you to know that I'll be thinking of you -- and hope your family is feeling better soon! You have 17 days to get 'all better'!:)

Thanks, Jody. I can't believe it is that close! I honestly don't plan on visiting the ship MD!!! I bet it's very expensive, and not covered by trip or medical insurance! We'll just have to get well soon!!:)

I haven't even started packing!:(

My husband visited the ship doctor on our cruise for what we thought was pink eye. He did have a sore throat also. I twound up that he had strep throat and the infection had gotteninto his eye. The dr was very good Gave him an antibiotic and a cream for his eye(which were inexpensive-cheaper than our co pay at home). I think the visit cost $58.
I hope you don't have to visit but have confidence that it is resonable if you do.

Thanks for the info, dis4me. That is much less than I would have expected! I'm going to think positive!(and healthy!):)

I think it is just Murphy's Law or something. It always seems that on the day before a trip somebody gets sick in our family. I am always at the doctor getting "just in case" medicine the day before or the day we leave to go somewhere. I hope you all get well soon! Erin

Yes, on TWO separate cruises I have visited the ship's medical center due to allergic reactions/infected insect bites (the bugs in Florida are a huge problem for me). The staff was wonderful, very caring, and I was very pleased with the service.

I now saturate myself in insect repellant the second I step foot in Florida.

Just returned from the 3-16 Magic cruise...and 175 dollars later.....I had tonsilitus.....on the Wednesday we were there. We cruised in Feb of 2000 and I had to go to the DR's cause of a suitcase dropped on my foot (thought it was broken)......The foot thing was 300 (with exrays and all). This time was only 175.....giving me antibiotics etc. Hopefully, insurance, or trip insurance will pay for it this time.

When you visit the ship's infirmary, they will charge your bill in full on your KTTW card as payment is due immediately. You will be able to submit it yourself to your insurance company when you return and health plans do vary with coverage when you are out of the country.
