We've only been back from our 2008 trip for 10 days, but are already booking our 2009 F&W trip. I booked our first 7 nights today, and was told by MS, to be safe, I should call back day-by-day to get nights 8-11.

Okay, that's easier than calling MS 11 times to make sure we get our 1-bd std view for 11 nights, but here's my question: could someone else call in the next 6 days and make a 7 day reservation where the first several nights are a waitlist and only the last nights are confirmed?

If not, the room that we will ultimately be assigned doesn't become available for booking by anyone else until 180 days from our currently scheduled check out date, right? And if that's the case, we could just make one more call in 5 days and extend the reservation.

Can you make a reservation at 180 days when you can't get your whole reservation? If you can't, is my logic for calling back just once more faulty for some other reason?

Bet this was discussed in one of those long threads when the policy first changed...I followed the discussion for a while, but don't remember this nuance being discussed.

Thanks, Tamar

Now, I'm confused too. I thought you'd be able to call back for nights 8-11 in one phone call, 11 months from day 8. After the first 7 days you have to call day by day?

That is how it should work at exactly 11 months out. However, I'm thinking MS probably routinely tells everyone to call back day by day because once you are past that exact 11 month window, it is a free for all.

The castmember we talked to actually told us to start calling back day-by-day today...is that wrong?

Where did 180 days come from? That would be about 6 months. DVC is 11 months for home resort, 7 months for non-home resort.

You can call day by day for days 8 to 11 or one call on 11 months from day 11. For a 1 bedroom standard view for October, you should be fine with one call.

Sorry, of course I meant 11 months. I was thinking about our V&A Chef's Table res, which needed to be made right at 180 days.

You can only start a reservation wiht a day that is available for booking right then. If I called and wanted Dec 25th thru Janury 7, but the 25th was not available and they showed no rooms until Dec 30, then I can't call until Dec 30th to get that night and can waitlist the days of Dec 25th to the night I got.

And if that's the case, we could just make one more call in 5 days and extend the reservation. yes, you are right. The room you are assigned cannot be booked by anyone else until your plan to vacate it. Which means that if you are leaving on the 7th, no one else can book it until the 7th. If you call on the 4th to extend it for the rest of your nights, then you will get it. you do not have to call day-by-day to add on. As long as you call before your date of departure, you are guaranteed the rest of your stay.

Can you make a reservation at 11 months when you can't get your whole reservation? If you can't, is my logic for calling back just once more faulty for some other reason? I'm not completely understanding this question. But if what you are saying is call once and book the first 7 days in room A from days 1-7, then call on again on day 5 or 6 to get days 7-11. Nobody else can book room A until the 7th besides you. If someone else call on the 3rd and wants a room from 3-10, it cannot take your room A, they will have to get room B since your room is occupied until at least the 7th so far.

Where are you getting 180 days?? It is 11 months out for booking an 180 for dining. I'm going to assume you meant 11 months. See my answers above....

Did I make any sense to any of you ???

Yup, that makes perfect sense. And--I did call back today, and was able to extend my ressie by one day.

I asked the same question twice in my post, because I wasn't sure the first way I asked it was clear, but your answer to the question the first time I asked it puts my mind at ease. We are guaranteed to be able to complete our ressie for 12 days as long as we book the end days of the trip while it's still more than 11 months before a new ressie could start. Good! This is the way it should be, IMO.

Debbie, since I was able to book "day 8" 11 months prior to day 2, I now believe a can book "days 9,10, and 11" 11 months prior to day 5 in a single call. They will not yet be available for a new reservation, but they are available for extending my reservation.
