I was looking for points on the rent/trade. Someone PM'd me and offered points at the price I want. However they have only 14 posts, compared to my 600.

I can check with records that they own but what else can I do to make sure they are legit? They offered to tell me the ressie # they make for me. Can I then check on it with MS since I am a member? Or is there a way for me to verify?

Renting is such a delicate balance and I have rented twice before without any problems at all but having someone PM me is just making me a bit scared.

Why don't you get the points transferred to you account so you have control. Getting a name off the records really won;t prove much of anything. As someone told me anybody could search records and pull a name and pose as that person online. Just goes to the trust issue that rentals have to have to work. But going back to my original comment, since you are a member get the points put into your account and you make the reservation.

I transferred points of mine into another members account already this UY. I think I can only do 1 transfer either in or out,is that correct?

Any other suggestions??

If you don't own the points that were used to make the reservation, you cannot call MS about that reservation.

That is correct...only one transfer per year either in or out.......

First of all, everyone has to start somewhere so just because they have a low number of posts isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's always good to be cautious. To help calm your fears, you can ask for references and see if any of them are here on DIS and have more than 14 posts. You can also require a contract. There are some great ones here on DIS that protect both the renter and the owner.

We've rented our points out a few times and each time gave the renter references and a contract that was signed by both of us.

This isn't true. I made reservations with my points for another member; she was not only able to access that reservation she was also able to link it to one she already had. This was all done without my knowledge. (not that I had a problem with it - I was just surprised it could be done)
