There seems to be a lot of unhappy people when it comes to the cleanliness of the rooms. Just curious if folks look around at other hotels or timeshares they might be staying at as closely as they do the DVC rooms?

I have stayed in anywhere from the typical ROACH MOTEL to the 3 and 4 star resorts. I do not believe housekeeping is any better or worse at our DVC resorts than at the 3 and 4 star hotels. Now remember how often mousekeeping actually cleans your rooms (not daily that is for sure). The hotels that you pay cash for and get daily housekeeping one might think they would be cleaner than they are. The other thing to remember is mousekeeping turns over a lot of rooms everyday and they have from 11:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Now it takes me at least 5 hours to clean my house when I am surface cleaning. When I am DEEP cleaning it takes a lot longer.

There have been a couple of cleaniliness issues we have had during our couple of stays at a DVC resort, but I am sure Mousekeeping does as well as they can with the amount of time they are given to turn over the room.

I would love to see a spotless room. Heck I would love to see my house spotless EVERYDAY as well. Don't you think mousekeeping does pretty good? The DVC rooms have a lot more nooks and crannies to clean behind (cupboards, refrigerators, laundry rooms, etc.) I feel they do a pretty good job! That being said there is ALWAYS room for improvement.

I had to vote 'excellent' on this one, our room last fall actually was spotless. I wasn't thankful for it, that is just what I expected from Disney.

It is upsetting to hear about these unclean room reports. The OP's defense of housekeeping, while admirably sympathetic, is still not acceptable to me. We are paying for a 4 star room and that's how I expect the housekeeping to be. Call me cold and heartless, but I would not consider whether housekeeping is being overworked or underappreciated, etc. I would just consider whether or not room quality is what DVC promised us. DVC needs to find a way to make this work for all DVC room occupants all the time.

Also, I have to say that comparing DVC room cleanliness is not completely analogous to ones' house's cleanliness. After all, most of us do not hire housekeepers once or twice a week. But if you did contract a housekeeper to clean your house to 4 star hotel standards, you would probably be very upset if they failed. In a sense, through our DVC dues/maint fees, we are contracting housekeeping to clean our DVC rooms. So, I do think people have a right to be upset when housekeeping fails to maintain high standards.

Just as I do not feel sympathy for housekeeping, I also feel that they should not be blamed or held responsible for this outbreak of subpar housecleaning. DVC management has failed miserably to address this long standing issue, and so it is THEY who should be blamed. For every time that a post appears on this board bashing housekeeping, I would hope that the basher also submit a complaint to DVC.
