?? about Pop Century

Does anyone know anything about Pop Century? I have read they are taking reservations beginning in December -- would it really be taking a chance to make reservations for a newly opening resort? Do you offset the pluses of all new furnishings, etc., against all new CD's and staffing and the inevidable "bugs" of a new facility?

I really don't know what to do. I presently have reservations at WL for what was to be a solo trip, except I am now going to be accompanied by my daughter and 6 y/o grandson. My budget would allow me to stay at WL since it was just myself - now, with the added expense of staying another night (due to their flight schedules), another adult and child park pass and meals, I'm thinking about changing to a value resort. And wouldn't it be nice if FT packages were extended thru December!

My grandson would probably like All Start Sports, since he played soccor and baseball this year, but I don't know how crowded or noisy it will be. My daughter has been ill and would probably like a little quiter place (Maw Maw probably would, too!)

Any suggestions? We're scheduled to arrive on Dec. 15 and depart on the 21st.

I was prepared to spend my vacation in December at POR or at ASSp. I like ASMu last September well enough, but thought that if we were to stay at the AS's again that ASSp would be the way to go in the preferred building. I think that POR is really cool too and I will get there one day. Then, WDW announced that Pop Century was opening the week we were planning to be at WDW anyway. We shortened our stay by a day, but we will be there for a week starting on 12/14!

I am prepared to deal with any potential glitches in the system just to be able to say that I was one of the original guests of the hotel. The place is colorful and fun just like the AS's and it's got the same ammenities. I can't wait to get there. My vote would be to go to the value resort and save the money. Mickey

I am thinking of booking Pop Century for a budget trip in April if POR is closed. I liked ASMO but I am not sure whether Pop Century will Have the same magic.

We booked Pop Century for Dec 19 - 27th. I think it'll be fun to stay at a brand new resort. If there are glitches.. who cares. It's still Disney. We'll still have fun. It's mandatory.

I had ASMo originally booked for December 13-20 and then when it was announced Pop Century was opening Dec. 14, I dropped those ressies right away and made new ones. I made the CM in CRO promise me it would be open because when I booked ASMo, they were almost completely booked!
I think Pop Century will be GREAT, and not one drop of Disney magic spilled. I'm just mostly excited that I will be a first guest and be the only one to have stayed in my room.
I say with kids, go for it. I think that if for some reason its not open, Disney will be more than willing to accomodate everyone and I'm thinking resort upgrades.

I remember when the Boardwalk opened in 1996 and reading reviews of people who had loads "new resort" problems. Some people took it in stride and there were always those who "will never go back there again". I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge 3 weeks after it opened and we didn't have one problem.
If you do book Pop Century be prepared for there to be possible problems and go with the flow!!!!!!!

Purely by luck we stayed at ASMO on opening day. Only the Duck Pond was open and I'm not sure if all the buildings were open yet yet; but the Magic was there! It was a real treat to be the first ones staying in a brand new Resort.
We have our ressies for 12/14 at Pop Century!

Thanks, everyone. Guess I'll sort of hold my ground so to speak and see if rates come out for December. My travel agent is going to think I'm indecisive!
