How safe is the parking at the terminal. We will be driving from NY and will have a few video game systems with us. Is it safe to keep them locked in vehicle or would it be safer to throw them into suitcases and keep them with us in the cabin?

Thanks. :sunny:

Parking at the port is $10 per day. For that, you get a secured lot (fenced, locked) with a guard on duty. In addition, no one is allowed on port property when the port is not open (days DCL isn't in port). We've left DVD, videos, etc. in our van with no problem. That's not guarantee of safety, but.....

In contrast, the lot at the Radisson, which is free during your cruise if you spend the night before at the hotel, is an open lot where anyone can have access. Only you can decide what the security is worth. Neither place assumes any responsibility for vehicles or contents left.

Another point--don't leave any open food containers in your car--there is a warning at the port about ants in cars. There are generous trash cans to dump any left overs before you go thru security. Since we come from the parks, we generally have some munchies in the car.....

I'm assuming all of the port parking is opn, not covered. WE are going in June so the heat inside the car will be tremendous. I'm worried about leaving videos in the car in the heat.

Port parking is open, out in the sun.

For our Sept. cruise, I packed everything I was leaving in the car in the cooler (which had been previously used for food on the way to WDW, but was now empty). Don't know if that made any difference, but I left our film (shot at WDW), etc. in it with no problem.

We are driving down as well and are staying at the Radisson the night before.
This is a subject we pondered as to where to park.
We have a new vehicle which I am concerned leaving unattended for a week in an open lot and we've decided to pay the $70 and park at the port. I KNOW that it is very secure, plus the ease of pulling up and just walking to the vehicle after the cruise is worth a lot just in lower stress levels :)

Been on several Disney cruises, and also drive to port and carry a VCR/TV and leave on car - never, ever had a problem - always cover it with a blanket. Would like to eventually invest in a small DVD/TV unit and then we might carry on to ship. Oh, by the way, we DO carry the VHS tapes onto the ship.

Leave them in the car, they will be fine. I wouldn't take anything extra with you on the ship...you will have enough just to fit all your souveniers in the room..lol.

Have fun!

If you carry VHS tapes onto ship, is there a VCR in the staterooms or are you just doing that so they are not exposed to heat.

I think we'll be crowded enough without bringing in the tapes that we can't watch. If there is a VCR in every stateroom, great!

I'm not sure about Categories 1-3, but there definitely is not a VCR in Categories 4-12. But I would take videotapes onboard with me to keep them from melting.

We just returned from our first cruise 2/14 and we chose to stay at the Quality Suites in Cocoa Beach (which is associated with the Raddison) and park in the open lot beside the Radisson. We have a brand new van and there was plenty of room so that you were not right up against someone. We had no problem at all. I must say that being first time cruisers we learned the hard way that you do need to take 1/2 of the clothes that you think you will need and twice the money. :p The fact that we had so many luggage items (six  ) did cause some stress about getting the family on the shuttle etc. However, as suggested on this board, I dropped the family off at the terminal along with all of our luggage, went and parked the van and hopped right on a shuttle at the Raddison. For the return, I was wishing that I had spent the money to park in the lot. After a week, I had no desire to stand in a long line (Lots of people park at the Raddison) in order to fit my family and luggage on a shuttle. Our porter took our bags out to the day parking area where the Radisson shuttle was and I hopped the shuttle and then drove our van back to pick up the family. Very smooth! Of course, if the weather is bad, you might need plan B.

We just got back from a 4 night cruise from the Feb 1st cruise. Cost of parking at the port is $10.00 per day, and the port is very secure. Much much more secure than when we have sailed out of it several years ago and Disney does an excellent job of keeping our cars safe.......just a note, you can pay with cash or charge your parking fees to a m/c or visa......Another note do not and I mean do not leave any type of soda, food etc in your car, your car will have ants in it when you get back.......:bounce:

I work at a library in NC and I've seen patrons return melted videos that had been left in a car in June---not a pretty site:mad:
Take the videos with you!
