This may be a stupid question, so I apologize in advance if it is. On days when MK has AM EMH, does the opening ceremony take place prior to the EMH opening or at the "official" opening time? Thanks in advance for your answers!

I am not 100% sure, but I think it is when the park opens for the EMH. I'm not sure what all the hubbub is about for the rope drop anyway. We always get to the parks when they open. All I've ever seen is some confetti glitter and a countdown.
Anyway, have fun!

Not wanting to catch rope drop, that's not the goal. We want to see the show with Mickey, the train arrival, etc. Thanks for the information though!

Barley Jack,
I see you went in Jan 08. What week did you go?
We are trying to decide between the third week in Dec 08 or the last week in Jan 09.

Thanks!

On Morning EMH days at any of the Parks there is no Opening "Show" at regular park opening.Whatever "show" they are going to do will be done at Morning EMH opening. The Morning EMH Opening Show at Magic Kingdom is USUALLY a scaled down version of the regular show. The regular show consists of the train bringing in a family of Guests and a BUNCH of Characters from Toon Town to the Train Station. There is also a group that sings and dances on the Train Station platform and the "Mayor" or some other Main Street "character" is also part of the "show".At the end of the "show",there is a Countdown led by the Guest Family and confetti is thrown and streamers are "launched".:) The Magic Kingdom Welcome Ceremony has been known to bring tears to the eyes of some Guests.:) On Morning EMH days, there will most likely be a recorded "welcome announcement" followed by the Countdown or possibly a Guest family will just walk out onto the Train Station platform followed by the Countdown.:)

Wow! I had no idea that all that went on. I guess the only time I was there was for the EMH! Now I want to check it out!

Here's the whole enchilada-

(from my kitchen, anyway ;) )

I arrive 20-30 before opening time at any park, on any day.

MK's Rope Drop Ceremony called "Magic Kingdom
Welcome
" (see link below) is, by far, the best and
most elaborate.

Guests are usually admitted starting about 15-20 minutes before
the posted opening time, to WAIT just inside the gates, in front of the trains station (near the "flower Mickey face.")

The ceremony lasts 6-7 minutes or so and starts 6-7 minutes before the scheduled opening time.

There is really only one more "formal" Rope Drop Ceremony... at DAK
called "The Adventure Begins"(see link below.)

Guests are usually admitted starting about 15-20 minutes before
the posted opening time, and they re-group to wait at the far end of the bridge from the Oasis (near the "Tree of Life.")

The ceremony lasts 6-7 minutes or so and starts 6-7 minutes before the scheduled opening time.

The above two shows feature Disney characters with "speaking
roles".
MK: (called "Magic Kingdom Welcome") at the train
station (with lots singing and
dancing, and a guest family).
DAK: (called "The Adventure Begins") after your cross
the bridge from the "Oasis" (no singing, but cute).

Epcot allows guests to "re-group" near Innoventions
and, on certain mornings, some of the characters show up
to quietly shake hands with a few of the folks standing at the rope.
CMs "hold" guests until scheduled open time, then
allow folks to go either way towards Soarin' or Test
Track/Mission Space.

At DHS the CMs have ropes across the street near the
Call-board/Tips-board/Starring Rolls eatery.
There will be a short (about 3-4 minutes) "show" which
will include a couple of selected Guests and then the
ropes are dropped
and everyone walks briskly
STRAIGHT AHEAD (with CM escorts)
towards the new Toy Story Midway Mania...
or turns RIGHT, and walks
briskly (with CM escorts) to ToT and/or RnRC.

At MK, if you have attended Cindy's Royal Breakfast
early, they do have a rope to hold you from FL until
"opening time".

If (IF) they perform a Rope Drop Ceremony at a given park, it will ONLY be ONCE per day (not twice.)

They might not perform it at all.

If (IF) they do perform a Rope Drop Ceremony at a given park on an AM EMH day, it will ONLY be performed for the EMH opening crowd and not at the "regular" opening time that day.

If (IF) they do perform a Rope Drop Ceremony at a given park, it will begin about 5-8 minutes before the scheduled opening time.

But, guests will be let into the park about 10-20 minutes before the scheduled opening time to get ready for the Rope Drop Ceremony.

To see if they will be performing the ceremony, look at the Steve Soares site.
(see link below)

Note: Like everything else at WDW, not EVERYTHING will
happen the same way or the same time (or even happen
at all) every day.
The best you can hope for is for what USUALLY happens.

Rope Drops are no exception to this.

I never miss being there before opening, EMH or
regular, but not just because of the "Rope Drop
Ceremonies"... its because you can do SO MUCH MORE
before the throngs of folks (who simply will NOT get
up early on vacation, bless their sleepy little
hearts) arrive later in the mornings.

Barley Jack,

We are trying to decide between the third week in Dec 08 or the last week in Jan 09.

Thanks!

We were there the 3rd week, just before and after MLK day. The weather was perfect, and aside from the Holiday weekend the parks were pretty much empty. A benefit to going in December is the Christmas festivities, or you could go earlier in Jan for that too I guess. We had a good time regardless.

Thanks WED and Robo! That's exactly the information needed. Thanks!

That's too bad that you haven't seen the full show. There are a lot of people who treasure seeing the opening ceremony and the rope drop.

BarleyJack, I hope that you get to see the opening ceremony. It's fantastic. I've been going for 15 years and I still tear up everytime I see it.

Thanks Orlando, we're looking forward to it. Neither of us has ever seen it and we sure hope we get to this time, as it will probably our last trip in a good while :sad1: . Thanks for your post!

Last August when my family and I went to the Magic Kingdom for Morning Extra Magic Hour they had the full opening show.

Yes.

At MK, I have seen the full ceremony with dancers. the steam train and characters on some AM EMH days...

AND, I have been on some AM EMH days and had them only play a brief
bit of audio (and no cast or train at all) before dropping the rope.

Same goes for DAK.

I think the rope drop ceremony is worth catching once. I had never seen it before and we got there early by accident last trip and we loved it. It was very enjoyable to see and a great way to start the day.

That is so true.:) That is why I qualified my post with USUALLY.In my experience,it has become very RARE for the "Full Show" to be performed for Morning EMH.If someone goes to Morning EMH expecting to see the complete Magic Kingdom Welcome there is a GREAT chance they will be disappointed.:)
