So I have been having problems with my right knew for a couple of months now, but it hasn't been so bad so I wasn't really worried about. Basically if I am sitting in a chair I can raise my left leg to a straight position with no problem. I can't get my right leg into a straight position (only by a little though) and getting it into that postition causes pain.

I am very excited about taking my first solo trip to WDW on March 7-11th. I decided to start walking at the mall yesterday to get more used to all the walking I will need to do at the World. I didn't seem to have much trouble when I was walking, but when I got out of the car when I got home my knee was definatly hurting and that was only after walking about 1 mile.

I am definatly now worring about all the walking I will need to do and if my knee will be able to handle it. Can anyone suggest anything? Maybe a good knee brace? I know that there is a possibility that I need a ECV, but I am worried about their cost and how I will look driving one by myself.

TIA:thumbsup2

Please ask yourself the following questions. Here are the suggested answers to go with them.

1. Are you disabled (even temporarily)? Yes.

2. Do you expect to meet anyone you know during this trip who may not know you are disabled. Probably No!

3. Do you expect to meet a bunch of people who you will probably never meet again in your life? Probably yes!

4. Is there any reason at all that you should care what these people think about you? Absolutely No!!

5. Will using a wheelchair or ECV make for a better vacation for you? Absolutely YES!

And if you rent from off-site it will be around $25-$30 per day, and you will have access to the ECV to include getting around the Resort.

Prior to my knee replacements, I was in a lot of knee pain. My biggest problem was with attractions with "small" ride cars (i.e., Spaceship Earth, Figment, etc.). Didn't stop me and I found it easier to sit sideways so I could stretch my legs out a bit.

Getting out was a bit trickier. I would grab the back of the car in front of me and grab the back of me and push myself up.

Take it easy. Rent an ECV to make your life easier. Been there, done that and I know it is no picnic. Pack an ice pack and/or heating pad. Prior to owning DVC (love those 1BR with a whirlpool tub), I would also take a bathing suit so I could stick my legs into the resort's whirlpool.

Have you asked your Doctor for some meds? Tylenol just didn't do it for me. Bayer Back and Body Pain works well but prescription drugs worked best.

Good Luck!

Ah, yes. Better living through chemistry. Just a thought -- if you do take strong meds that make you too loopy for driving, then please don't drive an ECV at WDW. You need to be alert with sharp reflexes to dodge the people who step right in front of you, then blame you for their stupidity.
