I just booked the Key's to the Kingdom Tour at MK for me and my daughter in two weeks.

1. For lunch - do you get a choice of anything at Columbia Harbour house or just a few items. I'm vegan and I could eat the Lighthouse sandwich without brocolli slaw, but everything I'm reading doesn't list that as a choice. The girl on the phone was real vague when I booked it and said I could order anything on the menu there, but I'm not sure she knows the real answer or not.

2. They told us no open toed shoes. DD and I don't even bring sneakers to WDW. We only bring flip flops. Has anyone been denied going on the tour for wearing sandals or sneakers?

Thanks in advance

We are super excited about the tour.

Wife and I are interested in this tour. We would love to know the answers too!

I did the tour last August with my dad. It is awesome and you and your daughter will really enjoy it!

To answer you questions:
1.) You can order anything off of the menu. When you check in a CM will hand you a Columbia Harbor House menu and will take your order. There is a roped off section for the tour participants and your food will be waiting for you when you reach lunchtime.

2. I wore Crocs on the tour and they worked fine though they aren't open-toed. I would bring sneakers or something similar to Crocs for the tour. It's only about 3-4 hours.

I loved this tour..I took it for my birthday last year and ended up having strep throat but i wasn't about to miss it!

1. You do get to choose from the menu. If for some reason you don't see what you need on the menu just ask them. They are usually good about accommodating!

2. Why no open toe shoes? I wore flip flops (also had a broken toe that day and couldn't wear closed toe shoes) I wouldn't see why you couldn't wear open toes? You don't do anything that would require closed toes...that's confusing to me!

2. I was on BSM last week and we were told they were starting no open toed shoes. It has to do with safety behind the scenes.

You go back into the work areas, with the floats for the parades. It can be messy back there, and I'd guess that someone got hurt, so they instituted the rule.

THanks for the open toe info:) I booked the tour for DH's birthday in August. There were several tour time in the am to choose from so we took the latest one (DSIL has to watch the kids on her vacation:) )

Here is the info from the website:
Disney's Keys to the Kingdom Tour highlights the fascinating history of Walt Disney World Resort and provides backstage access to secret areas of Magic Kingdom theme park.

Guests must be at least 16 years of age.

This approximately 4.5-hour walking tour explores the stories behind the remarkable creation and growth of Magic Kingdom theme park. Hear the intriguing story of Walt Disney and learn how his innovative ideas, revolutionary visions, creative philosophies and amazing accomplishments brought the Theme Park to life. The journey includes stops at backstage facilities and a variety of favorite attractions.

One unforgettable highlight is a trip below Magic Kingdom theme park into the service tunnels known as the Utilidors. This is one urban legend that is absolutely, and almost unbelievably, true—the Guest accessible areas of Magic Kingdom theme park are actually on the second floor of a massive structure. The first floor—called the Utilidors—allows Cast Members, deliveries and even trash to be unknowingly transported below Guests' feet as they wait in line for their favorite attraction.

If you would like an even more in-depth look at the backstage areas of Walt Disney World Resort, consider the 7-hour Backstage Magic tour.

Magic Kingdom theme park admission is required and is not included in the price of the tour. Please keep in mind that Disney's Keys to the Kingdom Tour is an outdoor walking tour, so be sure to check the weather report and dress appropriately.

Are they strict on the no open toe shoe thing?? I booked this tour last week and they only mentioned to bring an id and there are no pictures allowed backstage. I only take flip flops to WDW. Should I pretend I never heard this???:rolleyes1

Thanks about the info for lunch. I figured somehow it would or should be easy to order the lighthouse sandwich - I just hope it's easy to order without the broccoli slaw since it has egg in it.

I'm going to call tomorrow and talk to someone about the shoe thing. I am NOT bringing sneakers for us, because we don't wear them and frankly we don't have room for two extra shoes that take up so much room in the luggage.

We walk around Disney for 2 weeks at a time (heck 18 days last year) and my feet have never bothered me, actually my feet hurt worse with sneakers when I have worn them at WDW. In the heat, my feet are happier when they are cooler without socks!

Let me know...if its good news. :woohoo:

I did the tour in April, Melanie, and there was no comments made regarding shoes. I have taken many tours in all the parks, never a thought given regarding shoes. If there is, it is brand new.

Enjoy the tour, it is a good one.

OH i also forgot to mention that they are very strict on the no pics off stage. A guy in my group didn't listen and they took his camera away..gave it back after deleting all the pics he had taken.

I've heard a few different reports on the menu--when we took it last September, we could order anything, but I've seen reports both before and after my tour that people got a limited menu. I'd try to get them to note on your reservation taht you're vegan.

Thanks Dan,
I'm really excited to the tour!!

Update:

I just called and talked to a lady who was really helpful and funny. She said, NO you are not required to wear any type of shoe and there is no policy. She said they recommend comfortable shoes, but no requirements. When I said I don't even take closed toe shoes with me, she said she doesn't either it's too hot.

I also asked her about the menu. She said just let them know if what I'm looking for isn't on the menu, that "This is Disney" and you know we take care of those types of things. I told her I figured they would!! She said there was definately no problem with special dietary concerns on the tour!

Thanks for the info. I'm not surprised about the variety of instructions we've heard about this. I found that every time I called about the tour I was given somewhat different information. One lady said there was an 8:00 tour (there isn't). One guy said you had to be 18 (really it's 16). And even when I booked, I had to call back twice to get it done. One lady put me on hold awhile and then gave up and told me to call back and get someone else! I was surprised at the lack of information they had. Maybe because they don't have as many calls for tours? :confused3
