I just got back from an employment physical where one of the tests was a u/a that included a test for ketones. Apparently, I am in ketosis and this Dr wants me to go see my regular doctor about this.

I told him that I was dieting, mainly by watching my fat consumption as well as eating much smaller portions and adding exercising. I am not limiting my carbs, except in that I am not eating big portions anymore. (Just had pasta from Olive Garden the other night.)

Here is my question - why is this a problem? What is the normal range for ketones? Especially in light of the fact that I am trying to lose weight? I am eating something from every food group at every meal and not even depriving myself (had ice cream too!). But he insisted - without giving me specific reasons - that I take these results to my regular doctor.

Honestly, I do not want to stop what I am doing, I have lost almost 25 lbs and I feel really good. Should I be worried. (I cannot get into my doctors for another 3 weeks)

Any advice/help is appreciated! :earsgirl:

Ketones are a by-product of burning fat. So, be happy! Obviously, you are burning fat because of your weight loss - but now you know for sure because of the ketones!

Ketosis is often confused with Ketoacidosis, which is dangerous issue for diabetics.

But, if you are dieting, and losing weight, you will have ketones in your urine. :)
