Has anyone ever used Expedia to book a trip if so are they a good company to deal with? Are there better ones? I was looking at a trip 7 nights in July to Universal RPH which includes water view, air fare and park tickets for $3,000.00 is this a good deal? Is this a safe way to book a trip any help PLEASE. The trip is for 4 people 2 adults and a 17 & 12 year old with airfare from Knoxville Tennessee.

That sure doesn't seem like a very good deal to me ... what kind of rates are available from the RPR for your planned dates? How many people is that for? (that matters for the air fare and tickets ...)

Guess I should add that booking with Expedia is perfectly safe ... I just don't think you're getting a very good deal. :)

Expedia is owned by USA Networks I believe (or they soon will be, the takeover has or will occur ...) ... so in a way they're actually affiliated with Universal (USA Networks and Vivendi have some affiliation because of deals they've made in the past).

Have you checked discounts directly at the resorts? Call 1-800-BEASTAR and ask if there are discounted rates for your dates, like entertainment rate. If not, check www.hotelkingdom.com, they are reputable and usually cheaper. www.quikbook.com is also. I would try to book airfare and hotel separate. It has never been my experience that you get a good deal booking a package, somehow it always ends up more. hotel kingdom is running a RPR rate of around 134/ night in mid July. That's only around $1000 for 7 nights. Surely airfare is not more than $1000-$1200 for 4 people.

P.S.

Just guessing on dates, but a mid July air ticket on expedia is $239/ticket taxes included... only $956 total, with hotel at around $950 at RPR standard plus taxes, you're under $2000

I have to tell you I also looked into booking a package through Expedia for 5 people, after getting great advice here on the boards, I must say in my own experience I saved over $500.00 on our total package. Expeida gave me a price of about 2500.00 for tix, offsite hotel, and airfare. I did some research got the tix (5 day pass instead of the 3 day offered by Expedia) for 89.95/each, Expedia was $103.00/each, got on the direct airline website and booked our flight (saved over $300.00 on that one) and then called 1-800-BEASTAR and got ressies at the HRH for our entire stay for less than what Expedia was offering OFFSITE. Check it out; it may save you some big $

I also plan to visit in July. I booked through Universal directly and was able to get a discount with the Fan Club Card. I don't know if they are cheaper than the other options that have been suggested, but it's worth a try. They book complete vacations with air, hotels, tickets, etc. Good luck.

Expedia is a good site, but $3K sounds pretty high. You might be able to do better if you booked everything separate. It looks like some of the $ is going to line the pockets of the salesperson! :)

The others have covered whether or not you are getting a good deal (probably not!)

With regards to Expedia - I have used them several times and have had very good experiences. I have only used them for air - never a pacakge because I usually like to put together my own tickets, hotel etc.. DH just went to Vegas last month, tickets were booked on Expedia. His flights were changed 3 times (by the airline, not expedia) and I was very impressed at how professionally Expedia handled the situation and kept us informed. They helped dh change his flight to a convenient time etc. I would book with them again.
