? about DVC and Dining Plan

I posted this on the dining plan board, but need an answer as relates to DVC.
My self, husband and daughter are planning a trip to WDW next month. I would like to add the dining plan for the three of us. My daughter's boyfriend may join us at the last minute. I have all my adr's for four in case he is able to join us, if not we will show up with three (pretty sure it is the same size table)(NO flames please) Now, if the three of us have the dining plan and the boyfriend comes, can he be added to the dining plan at check in ? I heard that it must be booked in advance, but what do they do if you check in with an additional person ? Anyone know ? Thanks for your help.

How "last minute" would the boyfriend be? In other words, would you only know for sure as you are walking out the door to head to the airport or begin your drive to WDW? Will it be on a weekend or weekday that you know for sure? If a weekday during hours that MS is open, I'd simply call MS and add him then, as long as he is added on the ressie (by Member Services) prior to your arrival at the resort, it should be fine.

This is the quandary. The rules say it must be booked for the entire party and LOS but it must be booked in advance and cannot be changed at check in. I have the same issue for our Sept trip with a twist as it's an exchange and we may not be able to stay the entire 7 days but must purchase 7 days as that's the length of the "reservations". While there have been a couple of reports of people being successful changing at check in, it appears to be an unlikely possibility. I'd make it for 3 and hope for the best. If MS is open, you can even make changes on the day of check in as long as you have not yet checked in. If you can't add it prior or at check in, just use what you have and pay cash for the least expensive meals or restaurants where applicable to make up the difference. Or get it for 4 and plan a few more signature options as alternatives.

Our situation for Sept is 2 for certain, possibly 3 and a mild possibility of 4. If the 4th goes, it'll likely be the day of (Sat) before we know and possibly the night before (Fri) before we know for the 3rd person. We too have made reservations for 4 (OK to flame if you want, LOL) and very well may be trying to add one or even two to the DDP on arrival. Whatever happens, happens, and we are prepared to deal with all possibilities including having the plan for 2 but having 4 along. Lest anyone misunderstands, we will try to add any necessary at check in so we have the right number on the plan as people in the unit. At that point the onus will be on Disney as to how they want to handle it.
