hi friends

am i the only one having a hard time when i call to cancel an offer - how do i politely cancel without them talking me into extending the trial period - please tell me what to say to make this easier

also, please verify this for me - can i purchase a prepaid visa/mastercard at CVS or anyplace else and use this when signing up for trial offers and such

my feeling is that this would not work because there is no name on the card but please correct me if i am wrong

I'm of no help. I tried to cancel Rhapsody after 12 months the other day because I didn't use it once. And I couldn't convince the guy on the phone to let me cancel. LOL! So I took 2 free months and now I am going to have to call AGAIN! :rotfl:

I find it best to be very polite and let them get their pre-scripted "talk" out of the way. I say "I'd like to cancel" and then I sit back and let them go through the several paragraphs about how they are going to send me coupons worth $$$ money, or how they'll extend my trial until a certain date, or how they will leave my account open. When they come to the end of that section, they'll always say, "So, miss X, with your permission I'll leave this membership open, ok?

Then, I just say "No, I'd like to cancel today".

At which time I sit back and get something to do again, while they go into a 2nd pre-scripted paragraph. I let them come to the "close" and say their "now, with your permission, I'll continue your membership.." or whatever.

Then I just say, "No, I'd like to cancel today".

Don't say any more or any less. After about 2 or 3 of these, they'll say, "yes, I can handle that for you" and will give you a confirmation number.

The more you say to interrupt them the longer it all takes, I have found. So just let them get their sales pitch off their chest and be polite but short with repeating your 'no thanks' message and they will cancel you.

LOL...or do like I do and blame it on the DH.

As soon as they start the hype talk, I polite tell them that my Dh says it isn't something HE's not interested in and I simply need to cancel. LOL...stops the hype talk almost immediately.

:rotfl: :lmao: I thought I was the only one who did this!!!!! :rotfl: :lmao: Good to know that Im not!! lol

My husband is the cause of my cancellations too!

As far as the prepaid cards go, I believe the ones without a name and address linked to it (like the ones from CVS, Walgreens, etc...), will not work for the cc offers. The Simon visa seems to work the best, but I have found a couple offers that will not take that either.

This is what I do. I figure that their job probably stinks enough as it is. I try to show a little bit of kindness to them and let them do their little script. It really only takes about 30 seconds longer.

I haven't used the generic cards for offers but I have used the Simon gc with no problems at all :thumbsup2 I love it because I have had a few offers try and send thru extra charges or early charges and they were denied. I typically max out my Simon gcs in one day so that I'm not worried about any $$$ sitting on them. I typically go to the mall and buy a card for an amount close to what I need for the offers I am interested in trying.

I use the Vanilla Visa I got at CVS. I've had no problem with it.
I just use my home address and it goes thru.

You can look up your balance/activity online.

I usually just say I would like to cancel and then if they try to offer more to me then I politely decline. If they ask why I want to cancel I just say I never rec'd the product (which in some cases is true) or that it's just not something I can see using. Some people will be really nice to you others not so nice. It's not that bad once you call a few places it's like a breeze when you have to call.
