I have read that one of the big beni's of BWV is its walking distance to two of the parks...this is very appealing to me, and I wanted to hear real experiences with this...do you really walk? Is there a back-door entrance to Epcot? Is there a practical way to get to MGM Studios on foot?

EPCOT is the shorter walk...about 5-10 minutes. You enter through the International Gateway between France and the UK.

There is a path/sidewalk which goes all the way to the Studios as well. I would guess that it would be about a 15 minute walk.

We've walked to both...in fact I don't think we've ever used the boats to get to EPCOT when staying at BWV. If we just miss a boat to/from the Studios then we walk there as well.

Hope this helps.

On the last trip, we walked to Epcot 12 times (6 each way) and to MGM 3 out of 4 times. We beat the boat every time we walked. Our family includes a 9 year old and 5 year old, who complained some (big surprise), but made it no problem (with some carrying on the way back from illuminations;) )

Twice I jogged from the pool at BWV to MGM to EPCOT back to MGM back to the pool in about 30 minutes (i loved it).

BCV is just as convenient..........a little closer to EPCOT and a little farther from MGM. We're BWV members and love the accessibility to Epcot. We'll often walk over there after dinner just to see Illuminations..........then it's only a 10-15min walk "home" afterwards!!!!!!!!:)

I was just there in Feb.
I walked to MGM once. It's a 10-15 minute walk at least and unless you are extremely slow you will definitely beat the boat
BUT depending on your fitness level you may not want expend that much energy before touring the park (or have that much left when you are done).

The boat from BWV to MGM has this stop itinerary:

BWV -> BC/YC -> Swan/Dolphin -> MGM

From MGM to BWV:

MGM -> Swan/Dolphin -> BC/YC -> BWV

The Swan/Dolphin boat dock is about a 5 min walk from the BWV. I started using their dock to go to and from MGM. It was less tiring than walking all the way to MGM and made the boat ride shorter.

I didn't get a chance to walk to EPCOT. My brothers did and said it was very short compared to MGM.

However the boat trip from BWV to EPCOT goes like this:

Swan/Dolphin -> YC/BC -> BWV -> EPCOT

From EPOCT to BWV:

EPCOT -> BWV -> YC/BC -> Swan/Dophin

With Boardwalk being the first stop, I didn't mind the EPCOT boat trip at all.

Hope this helps!

Have a great trip!

Next Trip: Oct - 4 days of Wonder(DCL)/ 3 days at VWL

It is a very nice walk to MGM. Consider this: two people starting from the pool, one going to MGM, the other going to the boat dock. Person A going to MGM would be a quarter way there about the time Person B got to the dock. Factor in the wait for the boat, if it is not there waitng for you, plus the other stops the boat has to make, and my vote is for walking. Of coarse, this is the impatient NYer in me speaking!

I tried to do a search-unsuccessfully..maybe one of the more computer savvy folks can help- but Caskbill did a GPS calculation of all of the major walks around and about DVC properties...as I recall the BWV boardwalk exit/entrance to EPCOT International Gateway(backdoor between France and Great Britain) was about a third of a mile..The walk to MGM entry from the BWV was around 8/10ths of amile? Anybody have the link?

Christine (UK),

The pathway is on the "BWV-side" of the canal that separates BWV from the Swan/Dolphin, and follows it all the way to MGM.

You can pick it up down by the bridge behind Jellyrolls, or by either of the BWV pools.

We ALWAYS walk to and from EPCOT and almost always walk to and from MGM. Even though we do a lot of walking in the parks, when I am tired, I find it is easier to just keep moving than it is to stand and wait. For some reason, standing is harder on my body than moving! So after Fantasmic, we just walk home. We don't always beat the first boat, but we certainly get home before the second makes it to the Swan/Dolphin dock.

IMHO, the option to walk to two parks is one of the best perks of BWV.

hi: just throwing in another point- we tend to eat some really good meals while at wdw. the walks back "home" help to burn off some of the calories. we very rarely come back home weighing more than when we left, which is a definite plus. what's a little more walking when you can eat what you want?
