We're doing a 3-day cruise in December, which I'm going to put our deposit down on this week. The plan is to pay cash, but I'm always on the lookout for a good resale with banked points (not that I've ever found quite the right one, but I can hope!). If I find one, I might like to use some of those banked points for the cruise.

My question is this---if I've paid the deposit, can I then change over one or more of our passengers to booking with points? Or is it subject to availability, ie are there only so many people on the ship who can book with points?

Thanks!

Booking with points must be done with MS and utilizing their DCL inventory which is separate from DCL cash only bookings.

You would have to cancel your reservation (subject to penalties if applicable) and rebook through Member Services. Not easy to do if you are set on a particular cruise date and room category. Your cash passengers would be subject to the set rate for cash between MS and DCL. This will differ from the price you booked with DCL direct.

Technically it is a separate booking but some have been able to convert the cabin from cash to points by getting MS to help and having them 3 way with DCL. You'd have to change all over to one or the other though. You could still do some with cash but you'd have to pay the contract rate through DVC which is usually somewhat higher than the early booking discount rate you likely have now. Plus you'll have to pay all cash at that time, not just a deposit. Then DCL would credit you the deposit if you "cancel' far enough out to qualify for a refund. Call DVC and see what the numbers would be if it becomes applicable then you can make a final decision.
