ABD Backstage Magic 7/31 - 8/5/11

Woohoo!! We're sorry to hear that some other guests had to cancel, but we're super excited to be going. We've been trying to make one of these trips work ever since the first one was announced, but for one reason or another, we could never make it fit our schedules. And then I was a couple days late hearing about these 2011 trips and just missed getting on this July trip from the start. February and April aren't options because I won't have enough leave to take a week off of work until May.

It's going to be an awesome week-late birthday present (mine is July 21):banana::banana:

Great to have you all on the adventure! I agree with you about this being a super birthday present (mine is the week after the trip :goodvibes )! Can't wait to meet you in California!

Hi folks
Seems an age since I posted anything here. How is everyone? We're counting the days to our Feb WDW trip. But the REAL excitement is of course the ABD trip in July!
Got flights but haven't sent in the last bit of paperwork yet. (Booking Information). Anyone else sent that in yet?

Getting another 15cm of snow here in Winnipeg. I really need some WDW magic!

cheers
Bonnie :wizard:

I have yet to send in our final paperwork because we're looking forward to our Dream cruise next month. We just bought flights from Chicago last week and now I have to work on post trip transfers because we're staying an extra day and half.

Bonnie, sorry to hear your getting another 15cm of snow. I converted it from metrics and it looks like it's the same as two feet and a pair of shoes if I did my math right. :thumbsup2

We haven't turned ours in yet, since we keep trying to get fares that are affordable. I've got frequent flyer miles enough for one ticket, but DH doesn't have nearly enough, and the flight we want has gone up a few hundred since we started looking at it. Yikes! Hopefully we'll catch a luckier break soon, but it's sounding from airline policies and rising fuel costs that an improvement is unlikely...

Man airfares are high for this trip. Hopefully they'll come down soon. Might not be able to spend as much at Mickeys of Glendale if all my money goes to airfare.

I know! The fares are crazy and now Delta is supposed to be increasing prices and reducing services more. That's the carrier that I have enough miles to fly my ticket for free, so we'll likely have to gut it out and fly Delta anyway. :confused3

Thats a great reminder - I'd completely forgotten about it and I have our flight info now too - when is it due... (where did I put that pesky paperwork...) :rotfl:

And more importantly, CHOCOLATE! Who is organising the chocolate swap, how, where, when, what...???

Well, if I have to. I have no problem organizing the chocolate swap. ;)

So who would like to be in and what are you bringing?

Perhaps we should do this our first night?

No we cant all bring Reese peanut butter cups for Paula .. however that would be funny. ooh.. that could be part of it. Is there a diffrence between the Canadian to American PB cups.

For me, Im bringing two things.. some Laura Secord chocolates for Julie as I heard she likes them and some Purdy's hedgehogs. They even make Sugar free ones so Pete can have one too. or two or three..

On a unrealted note, anyone know where on the trip I might be able to get a bottle of Fess Parker Wine to bring home?

Hi Folks,

Just a quick note to let you know that I wont be able to make ABD chat this week.

If you have any questions or concerns about our upcoming Adventure, please feel free to email me.

Thanks,
Kevin

Ok I vote you to organise ;)

I don't suppose it matters what I bring - its not like anyone else will be bringing any NZ chox - Mum will join in too.

Can't help with the wine sorry - I don't drink alcohol.

Hi Paula,

ABD Chat is every Thursday in the ABD chat room for those going on an Adventure.

Hi all -

I tool my girl scouts winter camping this past weekend - 33 kids in the snow. Now that all the planning and work is over for that adventure, I can think about this adventure! I received a box with a couple of the recommended books from Amazon today and can't wait to get reading.

More exciting, I was just looking around and realized that the Little Mermaid attraction and new Star Tours are opening in June in CA, so we will be able to see them on our trip. I didn't put that together before.

I'm hoping to hear more about the first group's trip on the next podcast!

So at work, the annouced location specific black out dates for summer travel. My store, no travel in August.. I was ready to fight my boss on this, that I had already booked this trip and its a done deal Im going.
He asked me about what I was doing and this in a nutshell is what he said. - I can see that your passionate about this and I dont see it being a problem, just bring me back something cool.-

I was ready for a fight and got a its ok, go. :cool1:

Whoo hooo... minor freak out for a minute but whoo hoo. Just means Im going to have a lot of work to do before I leave.

Wow that was lucky! Still I guess you are only away for a couple of days in August anyway - maybe? Even so, its good that its not a problem for you.

I finally found my paperwork - I'm blaming the earthquakes for burying it under a pile of stuff in the spare room ... so I have filled out most of the form and just need to grab Mum's passport details so I can send it back to Disney.

Due to our earthquake, my boss lost his home, and my Mum has been looking after his dog and cat until they can find a new place to live. He was so grateful that he has offered (and now paid) for our accommodation at the Disneyland Hotel for the first 5 days of our trip - OMG how generous is that?

We were booked at the Super 8 so thats quite an upgrade! :lmao: One night at the DLH is more than our entire previous reservation LOL

So I'm still looking at rental cars, I know they charge $15 for parking at Disney now so wondering whether we actually want the car for those days or just get it the morning we are planning on starting the road trip part of our journey. I'm thinking just get it for the road trip and if we want to go to Walmart or something, we could just get a taxi cab or something.

So how many days out are we now?

I'm booked!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got my air fare and am so ready to go! This is making it so real now. I am beyond excited!!!:woohoo::dance3::cheer2:

Perhaps just a tad early.

We finally have our airfare, so other than post-trip transfers back to LAX, I think we're sort of set! :cool1:

Just wondering, is it too soon to pack? :rotfl2:

Well, perhaps not. Its winter for you in July right? And here it Summer. So "technically" its two different seasons of clothes. So yes you "could" start packing. But as my four year old found out, packing and pacing doesnt make the trip come faster.;)
