It's snowing here in New England, so what better way to spend time than to start a pre-trip report?

To start with, I'm Emily and last week I finally decided to quit talking and begin doing. I put down my deposit for my first Adventures by Disney trip - the DIS Exclusive Backstage Magic December 13 - 18! It took a lot of self-convincing, but with the help of You Need a Budget, tax refunds, and a raise on the horizon, I realized I could make it work.

So why this trip? A couple of reasons:
  • Travelling Solo
    • While I'm used to traveling "solo" to WDW (I have friends in the Orlando area I visit and used to live there), I don't exactly know my way around Southern California. I figured I would feel FAR more comfortable knowing I have someone to contact and travel with in the area. Depending on how this goes, I'd love to take more ABD trips internationally!
  • Itinerary
    • I'm a huge nerd (software engineer by profession!) and LOVE seeing how things work. Visiting Imagineering and Jim Henson Company Studios is an absolute dream come true for me. I apologize in advance, but I'll be the one asking a ton of questions on the tour.
  • Timing
    • I usually visit WDW a couple times a year, but this year it looks like that might be a challenge. Instead, I thought it would be better to choose one BIG vacation that I know I'll be able to take and any additional trips I work in to my budget are bonuses.
    • I realized right after my deposit went through that this trip falls the same week Star Wars: The Force Awakens premieres. The supposed Hollywood premiere for Star Wars is THE DAY WE TOUR HOLLYWOOD! I'm really hoping we get to see them set up for the big premiere.
    • Disneyland's 60th anniversary is looking like it'll be AMAZING. I can't wait to see all the surprises they have in store
    • Holiday time! I've been to Disneyland once before during the holidays and it was gorgeous! I'm excited to see the overlays and special entertainment - especially Haunted Mansion Holiday!
It's going to be SO HARD to not read any BSM trip reports, since I've heard there are a ton of surprises. I promise when I write my final trip report I'll use the brand new spoiler tags!

That way people can still be surprised on their trips :)

My plan at the moment it to pay for at least one trip-related thing a month. This month is trip insurance. I keep debating about getting a "cancel for any reason" policy or just going with the normal plan. Really, I'm just worried about a blizzard of some sort cancelling my flights out to CA.

I haven't done anything else with this trip besides sign paperwork, BUT I got an offer for a new job at ESPN yesterday! Starting March 9th, I'm back with the Walt Disney Company with Disney park benefits :)

Since I'll have a week off between old job and new job, I think a last minute celebration trip down to WDW is in order!
