Abaco Bahamas

Oh! I've been there! On our honeymoon, on the Big Red Boat. The boat anchored and you could tender to the little islands. I think we went to Green Turtle Cay and walked around. It's very quiet but I think the one island,( something to do with an elbow) had a lot of big hotels and golf courses.

It's very beautiful, very different than Nassua and Paradise Island. I think the night show, on one of the islands, was cancelled due to excessive mosquitoes.

I lost this post. Disney cruise line docks there? Yes it's Green Turtle Cay. There are some nice resorts but apparently it's not really a touristy place. DH and I are planning a small anniversary get-a-way and we need somewhere where 3 days won't be too short a stay because there is so much to do. And it looks beautiful.
No info mentions ack Mosquitos. This is something I'll have to find out about.

Actually, it was the Premier cruise line, which had a deal with Disney to provide cruise and WDW vacations.

We went in July so the mosquitoes were probably a seasonal thing. I know Castaway Cay has the same night time problem and maybe the more inhabited island don't have that problem.

I have info upstairs from our honeymoon I can dig out later.

You want to fly somewhere? I wouldn't mind going back to St. Thomas for a short vacation.

My daughter went there for her grad trip. She went with 4 girl friends. They rented a house on Great Guana Cay. It was very beautiful but it was a little too quiet for her. There are few cars on the island you either walk or use golf carts. To get there they flew from Fort Lauderdale to Marsh Harbor and took a ferry to the island. It has beautiful beaches, she said they were empty. When we were at Castaway Cay on the Disney cruise she said it was just like Great Guana Cay.

As it's an anniversary trip, I guess that's what we're looking for. And I think nothing to do would be a plus.
St. Thomas is also on the list. We are looking for some place compact. You know, stay at your hotel, walk, to the beach, walk or bike to get something to eat. Maybe a place to get drinks in the evening. And I want it to be on the east coast so I don't pay a bunch for air fare.

Abaco was my all time favorite vacation (Disney is a really really close second though). It is on a little island off the coast of Abaco. We stayed at the Abaco Inn about 14 years ago (where does the time go) and it seems to have only gotten better. I think there were less than 10 rooms when we were there. It was so peaceful. We had a room that was on a small bluff and we could lie in bed and see the ocean. There was a hammock right out the door too. It is definitely laid back and you make your own fun. My husband was kind of bored but I was happy just to walk, nap, read, bike ride.

It is definitely worth the trip.

Thanks for the link. I think we're going to go there in Feb. I'm trying to figure the island out though. If you stay in a hotel/resort is the only place to eat in that resort? Are there perhaps less expensive places to eat in the surrounding town. How hard is it to get around while there?

First, once we got to Abaco Island, we had to take the ferry over. That was pretty easy. Taxi from the aiport to dock, dock to Inn. Once on the island the hotel had bikes, we used those a few times. They did have a shuttle van that ran into town in the evenings dropping off at various restaurants. When we were there we ate mostly at the Inn. But Hopetown did have other places to eat. Good luck.
